Is 4.7 stable enough for a new installation?

Postby ZombyWoof » Sun Sep 09, 2012 11:31 pm

I have recently built up a server and loaded all of my music files on it. I am about to install Subsonic but would rather wait until 4.7 is ready. Is it stable enough now to install and then update when it is final? By stable I mean it basically works and won't trash files and can be simply updated with the final version. Better yet, when will 4.7 be out of Beta?

I have several SS site installations and i find 4.7b3 to be better in every way than previous versions. I use the WAR version on Windows so I won't vouch for other platforms, but 4.7n3 is now my baseline for Subsonic.

YMMV

I just used that version for an Ubuntu install and it all worked flawlessly.

The 4.7 final is now available for download and seems very stable. I see no reason not to consider this the new baseline.

I use this 4.7 final using the WAR version on Windows/Tomcat 6.0 - runs great and it's a breeze to update.

I also use MadEvil's Mashup Mod, and likewise find his latest release very stable and filled with many new useful features that I really like. Again I use the War version on Windows/Tomcat.

These are good times for all Subsonic users. I have both sites working great with my Android powered Samsung Galaxy SIII running a variant of the DSub apk. I can stream music and video to the phone without any problems other than needing enough bandwidth to play video which isn't always possible with Sprint's crappy 3g that is all I can get in my area. Other than that I have everything working including Recorded TV playback.

What's not to like?

Thanks for the feedback! I've been holding off for the new version and seeing 4.7 was in Beta 3 configured a server with buntu 12.04 server edition.
I don't stream to the internet or other devices. Just inside my net and local jukebox.
Now, this gives me something to do this weekend!

i would agree to stable - i am still annoyed by the snail speed of database updates. be prepared for a long time, if you have many files.
at the moment i only use 4.7 (final after b3) on a 'sandbox' machine due to the database issues. researching at the moment my options to switch to sth else like a flavor of sql before taking it to the 'live' stage.
