4.7 final looks very solid. One nagging feature that needs to be addressed is the "Playing" screen. I don't understand why it would be too difficult to check that it is current whenever the player advances to the next track. This is particularly annoying when you que a various artists playlist. Now Playing just sits on the Album that contains the first track in the playlist and never changes.

Other than that minor whine, this is definitely the best Subsonic release to date!

Finally time for me to upgrade! Only reason I delayed it is because I have the signature MOD and the registration MOD installed, and I'm dreading having to re-code them the way I have them now.

Anyone have advice on how to "save" existing MODs when upgrading, or will the 4.7 upgrade take this into consideration and not overwrite the modded files?

Now you know why I don't mod ...

Actually, I run several sites always keeping one stock Subsonic as a baseline. All the sites access the same media library so using multiple sites allows me to play around without ever going down.

MadEvil's mod is the first that I've adopted for regular use as he keeps up with changes in the standard release and incorporates new releases with his mods. When I first tried getting into it for myself, I just got too frustrated trying to remember everything that had to be done to upgrade and finally just accepted that it wasn't worth the trouble.

I think Hakko has done great work as well and I hope to try his version soon.

But these are the only two that I've seen stick with it to the point that it made sense to use their work.

Well, I just ended up backing up the entire /var/subsonic folder, and my main website page, then did the upgrade. Haven't begun copying files back, but I get a "service unavailable" error when I try to access the site now.

I've restarted the subsonic service (but not the server, just yet), and the only "mod" I have done so far is to increase max memory to 200 from 150 (default), and chown the /var/subsonic folder (and subfolders) to "root"

I would like that advice as well. I am running the registration mod and 2 instances on the same server.

Great, Thank You Sindre, you certainly did a very good job there ^^

But there is still one Thing, which is really annoying: Evertime i scan my mediafolders the scanner stopps at a certain number of scanned files. i discovered, that it always stopps when subsonic tries to scan my videos-folders
With version 4.6 i was able to disselect these foldes so just my music-collection was scanned. Afterwards i reselected the paths to my videofiles and everything was ok. but now with version 4.7 this workaround doesn't work anymore because if i do so, subsonic only shows empty folders

Ahhh i simply disabled the Fast-Access and now it's working fine with the described workaround
Nevertheless i think the stopping of the mediascanning process is some kind of bug isn't it?

Another user raised this issue in the beta thread:

I have installed the latest version of Subsonic recently ( 4.7.beta3 (build 3081)) and one of the changes bothers me a lot .
If there is no track number on the tag, album tracks are sorted in alphabetical order.
They used to be sorted by file name as well so if track number tag is missing, album tracks would still be sorted in correct order.

I'm aware of tag editors. I have a rather large mp3 collection and this task would be time consuming.
With previous release album tracks were sorted in a correct order regardless of having track number on the tag or not.

I'm in the same situation with my collection -- the switch from filename-based to tag-based indexing has made a shambles of my album organization and track order. Is it at all possible to toggle indexing back to the 'old' method, or otherwise have Subsonic fall back on filename-based indexing when tags aren't available?

Currently no album art is shown for folders with no media and they are also sorted before folders with media...

My action is to either flatten my folder structure (remove CD1, CD2, ...) or wait for an updated release...

Apart from the above I think 4.7 is solid release...the best is getting better...

I just installed 4.7, and as with the previous betas, I just get a error 503 message when trying to connect to subsonic. I know this has been discussed elsewhere, but I don't remember seeing any solutions anywhere. Is there one?

When HTTP ERROR: 503 occurs, have a look at the log files in (Program Files)/Subsonic/log/. There's probably some clue there. Paste it here for feedback.
