After installing R4.7, transcoding .wma lossless didn't work at all. I replaced the FFMPEG & LAME decoders with the most recent ones. That worked. It appeared that the FFMPEG replacement was essential.
One of the effects of an older LAME&FFMPEG was a terrible hiss when changing tracks. That happened with the last 4.7 beta.

Looking at the log file, as mentioned before, there's a long list of 'invalid dropings'. Though the sound quality is OK, something seems to be wrong here.
I used the recommended transcoding string: ffmpeg -i %s -ab 192k -v 0 -f mp3 -
And now using the recommended string from http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/subsonic/index.php?title=Transcoders#Transcoding_to_MP3: ffmpeg -i %s -acodec libmp3lame -ab 192k -f mp3 -

In both cases the 'invalid dropings' appear in the log.

Does anybody have an explanation?

What the hell are "invalid dropings"
Perhaps it's something you get when playing too many Byrds albums

My brief testing with different ffmpeg versions usually results in grief - ok got it decode blah files - now wont display videos
and so on....
The best I managed with the latest static builds would decode all my test videos
Play all my test audio files - unless they were 24 bit (very hit and miss there, flac worked sometimes, wma nope)
Ok so nearly cracked it me thought - then discovered that the audio would work via jukebox but not via web player.
Just silence but no errors in logs
If you then start trying to changing the transcoding strings using all the clear and comprehensive documentation available - even more grief
So I would second the request
