By disableing the adsl's dhcp i cant even get into the settings menu.
Really hope im not going to have to factory reset this one. Going to be a nightmare to get all the settings in again.
Any ideas how i can get it back?

The adsl is connected by ethernet into the port marked internet on the wndr3700.

I think ive changed the wrong routers dhcp as doing it on the adsl has caused me to have no internet at all and i cant even get into the router settings to change it back. Ive done a factory reset and im just setting it all up again.

Should i try to uncheck dhcp on the wndr3700 and forward the ports through the adsl?
Would that work?

NO connect the 3700 by putting the ethernet cable from the modem into a regular LAN port.

Reread my post just above your last entry as I just edited it.

When you connect the 3700 to the ADSL modem by plugging the cable into one of the LAN switch port, it bypasses the DHCP and firewall functions and just acts as a WAP. Then all ip mgmt. and firewall is managed by the ADSL Modem.

It would still be a good idea to turn off DHCP on the 3700 in the settings.

REPEAT - There should be NO cable plugged into the port labled INTERNET on the 3700!

Ok. I think i know what your on about. Ill let you know how i get on lol

One quick question though. If i take the ethernet cable out of the internet slot on the 3700 will i still get the 5ghz network?
Just seems like it should be in the internet slot to recieve the internet?

I know it's counterintuitive, but that's what needs to be done. Most networks only use one router. Because you're connecting to the internet with the ADSL Modem/Router, you CAN'T connect the 3700 directly to the internet. By connecting the two devices LAN-to-LAN the second router merely becomes a wireless access point that is now out of the loop as far as DHCP and firewall functionality, which is just what we want.

You will probably want to turn off wireless on the ADSL unit once we get all of this working so that the better 3700 provides that and you don't have two wireless signals in the same space.

Doing this does NOT affect the wireless performance. You'll still be able to use 5GHz

Ok ive got the routers set up as you said. No cables in the internet port of the 3700. I also turned off dhcp on the 3700.

What next? Lol

Edit. By turning the dhcp off in the 3700 i cant access the settings on that anymore.
Any idea why its doing this? Do i factory reset again?

You probably don't need to access it but you probably can if you go into it with a direct connect to it from your computer.

You now need to look at what's going on in the ADSL router and determine what ip your server is at and set up port forwarding to it as we discussed earlier.

Ok. Can i tell you where i am just now. Just want to right it down as im getting confused again.

I have the adsl plugged into the 3700 by ethernet and not into the internet port.
I have the ethernet going from the 3700 to the pc.

I can now get 5ghz across the network so that seems to be fine??

When i put localhost:4040 in the browser i get - http error:503, service unavailable, requesturi=/, pewered by jetty://.

Am i at least getting somewhere??

Man this is hard. Lol

OK - that's the first hurddle. We need to get the local host fixed. The 503 error can have different causes and is usually due to an improper shutdown or db corruption that gets things messed up.

Just uninstall all instances of Java through Control Panel/Programs and features, then do the same for Subsonic, then delete the C:\Subsonic directory for a complete uninstall.

Then got to http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp and install the 32-bit Windows Java. You only need to install the 64-bit Java if you use the 64-bit version of IE, but I always install it in case anyone uses it.

Once you have Java properly installed, then go to http://sourceforge.net/projects/subsonic/files/ and reinstall the 4.7-setup.exe - I know this sounds like a lot of work, but it should be familiar territory and only takes about ten mins.

Once installed test to see if the local host responds.

NP - I may be old and feeble but I still remember sitting up nights figuring all this stuff out. You are just the reminder that I needed that everyone wasn't born knowing this stuff and it takes a bit to really get a grasp of what's happening.

YES! - If you have logged on to the local instance and all is well, check from aonother PC if you can that you can acces Subsonic from WITHIN your network. Once you've done that all that we will need to do is establish the connection from outside by forwarding the port (4040?) to the internal ip of the host PC where SS is installed.

Please tell me what the model is on the ADSL modem again. I can't remember where I saw what you posted.

Just trying to get the readyshare to show up again but no dice. Looks like thats going to be the next hurdle.
\\READYSHARE doesnt show up in my network anymore.

Edit.
I think i can accesa the 3700 if i put the ethernet into the internet port. Would there be any settings i could put in to make readyshare show up?
