external hd wont scan [Resolved]

I have all my music in a 2tb external hd called b:\Music but subsonic wont scan the files.
Anyone know why this could he happening. Its not the partition because ive used this drive with subsonic before.

Where is the drive plugged in? is it local to the SS server.

Yeah its local. Its plugged straight into the pc. The only files it find are ones that i put in c:\music. Just made that as a test folder.

Now it wont add any folders.
It comes up as "No media found please change the settings"

Ive copied and pasted the the location on the drive as B:\Music and B:\ but nothing.

I was mucking about with the permissions when i had it plugged into the network router yesterday. So i went and checked if that was the problem but it seems to be set up for local already.

Ive tried adding C:\Music and now even that doesnt work. The only time it worked was when i uninstalled java and subsonic and did a fresh install the c:\music folder showed 1 album that i put in for a test.

Anyone any ideas?

Try using your account credentials instead of the local account.

I also find it a bit odd that it's using B: for the drive letter, which is usually a floppy drive letter. Not saying it's a problem, just never saw one set up that way.

BIGSACK-PC looks like the computername.

Enter the same thing you use when you log on to your computer.

YOUR username and password, or the Administrator's username and password.

If your's doesn't work, try the Administrators account.

You can also right click on the folder where the music is stored and click on properties then check the securities/permissions settings to see what's going on. In your setup there's no reason that there should be any access restrictions on the folder and the permissions to the file should be set to read for everyone and it probably wouldn't hurt to enable read/write for everyone.

I think you need to do some googling/youtubing on the basics of Windows. Your going to see stuff like this pop up all the time and it is essential that you get a grasp of the OS you using. Perhaps a visit to your local Barnes & Noble for some books on Windows would be helpful. Windows 7 Inside and Out is probably the most comprehensive, but there are other options that may serve you better at you current level. Grab a few and look through them to determine the writing style that works best for you.

We are happy to support and help anyone that needs assistance, but you will learn more if you do some digging on your own that builds some of the basic skills you need to install and administer applications like Subsonic.

It's all good. Subsonic is a great application for motivating a user to raise his/her skill level. That's one of the benefit in an interest in Subsonic because it involves so many areas that require understanding by the user installing it.

Most likely. Detail is important - is your username BIGSACKS or is it BIGSACKS-PC as it shows in your post?

See that Browse button to the right of "This account" - if you use that it will verify that the account you chose is a valid entry.
