» 'Now Playing' tab: batch mode support
» 'Now Playing' tab: larger album art to fill empty space

Very happy to see someone is extending the Android client. For me the media controls fix is worth the cost alone - good to have this working, so thank you!

As you asked for feature requests, here are a few things I think might be nice:

  • Gapless Playback - currently the client leaves quite a gap between tracks that are meant to be seamlessly joined, like DJ mixes etc.
  • When a file is playing, the player shows the album artwork for one of the tracks in the folder, rather than the currently playing track. API limitation?
  • It's been said before, but UI update. Something adhearing to http://developer.android.com/design/style/themes.html would be shiny :)
  • Also mentioned before, but playlist editing and better offline mode (like iSub) 8)
  • Finally, and this is a bit pie in the sky, but AirPlay with Airport Express support. There seem to be a lot of people out there that would like this for Android and the only player that does it is http://www.honey-player.com/ but's buggy to the point of unusable. Might get you and Subsonic a load more users.

Thanks for making the Android better.

I have updated with some better themeing. I still have more to do and eventually I want to move to Android style tabs, but for now I figured I had done enough that I could release something.

"When a file is playing, the player shows the album artwork for one of the tracks in the folder, rather than the currently playing track. API limitation?"
Mind explaining what you mean more? I take that as meaning that if you have a playlist, the album art is just pulled from any one of the songs instead of the currently playing one, but when I just tried it that is working correctly (at least for me). Or do you mean you have different album arts for each song in one album? Because if that is what you mean I'm pretty sure Subsonic API just allows you to pull the album art for the whole album.

As for Airplay, like you said it is buggy and that guy probably had to do a ton of work to get that working. I have limited time to develop so I think I'd rather spend my time on many lower hanging fruits then spend it all trying to get that one thing working.

Is it possible to swipe and album and cache it for offline playback at a later date without playing it?

Still working on caching a song without it being added to the now playing list. It's been more difficult to get to work than I originally thought since the original code is so strongly geared towards just adding stuff to the now playing list.

Just purchased. The offline playlists alone are worth it. One thing I miss from my blackberry (besides a universal inbox) is that you could skip songs forward or restart the song by holding down the volume buttons. That way when I'm driving I can just reach down and skip a song I don't like without looking at the phone. If you could work that into your app it would be awesome!

Loving the new UI. The dark theme is really starting to fit in with the other JellyBean apps on my Galaxy Nexus. Looking forward to seeing the revised tabs.

To explain the cover art issue in a little more detail... I have genre folders full of singles rather than albums, each with it's own cover artwork embedded in the file. An example file structure is:

Breaks/PlumpDjs - The Gate.mp3
Breaks/Opiuo - Glottal Stomp.mp3

...and so on.

When I browse to "Breaks" and play all files, the player does not display the artwork for the currently playing track. Instead it seems cover art is taken from a random file within the folder and that is used for all files that are played back. Hope that makes it a little clearer?

Totally agree with you on the Airplay feature. I just thought I would throw it out there :)

How about gapless playback? Is that a big ask or something that could be implemented in time?

Thanks again for all your hard work.

Great app / runs smoothly on my GSM Galaxy Nexus. I will add another +1 for gapless playback support. Thanks for your effort.

Gapless is definitely on the todo list for ICS+. For 2.3 and below though it would take more time than it's worth to figure out how to do gapless playback when it's a shrinking target anyways (ICS is starting to hit critical mass). As for the album art issue I will take a look into it. It could be a problem with how Subsonic server is sending the album art to DSub, or it could be a problem of how DSub it interpreting what it is getting from Subsonic. I don't really know right now.

Fantastic news - thanks for your reply and being awesomely responsive. Good luck with the coding :)

I registered just to tell you how much I like this app. Such a HUGE improvement over default app, especially the lockscreen widget for ICS and notification widget. Thank you so much, it was totally worth the $2. :D

A couple of ideas:
1. Gapless playback would be HUGE for me, please put this at the top of your list.
2. I know this has been brought up before but I would love a better homescreen widget, such as http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=8963.
3. Better offline support. Again, I know it's been talked about but I really support it.
4. UI update, specifically Holo theme. See http://developer.android.com/design/style/themes.html. Dark and light themes provide a great contrast.

Thanks again!

How do you add the lockscreen widget? Do you need a 3rd party app?
Also... looks like Sindre is starting work back up on his android app... let the battle begin.

If your phone is ICS+ (4.0+) it should just work...if it's not only some pre-ICS devices I've seen actually support it.

Hmm... for some reason I can't find anything regarding custom lock screen widgets for ICS unless you install something like WidgetLocker.
I'm running ICS+ (4.0.4). I can install an app shorcut to dsub via the phone settings for the lockscreen, but no widget luck. Am I overlooking something?
