4.7 album song order change? WAVE is wrong, FLAC is correct

Postby Kraut » Tue Sep 18, 2012 4:06 am

I just updated to 4.7 and noticed the song order in the albums is alphabetical, instead of the correct album order #'s, as it used to be. How can I change it back to the original album order, not alphabetical? Thanks

Okay, I noticed an anomaly. Most all my song are in WAVE format. These song are automatically organized in the album alphabetically. I have a couple of albums which are in FLAC format. Those albums are organized correctly: the order the album is on the CD.

So, anyone know how to get my WAVE formatted songs to be organized correctly? And no, I am not going to convert my whole server to FLAC.

FLAC have tags which SS can read, wav files do not so SS has to revert back to an alphabetical sort.

Due to the confusion from too many genres of music, we have decided to put both country music and rap music into the genre of Crap music.

I understand that, but this problem just started happening with the upgrade to 4.7. I have always had my music in WAVE format in which the songs were not listed alphabetically.

4.7 uses the tag data - 4.6 used the folder structure ( simplified explanation  )

Anyway to use the old way without going back to 4.6?

Short answer: No. No way to revert without rolling back to version 4.6.

Bummer. I like 4.7 load time for browsing on phones, but the song order bugs me. I guess I could just switch the songs back to uncompressed FLAC.

Why not just compressed FLAC? It is loss-less... the only "cost" is CPU time to transcode them, which you are paying now anyway to transcode the WAV files to MP3...

If I remember right, certain web browsers gave me trouble with FLAC, that is why I switched a while ago. Maybe I will give it a try again.
