Updated ffmpeg gives Error Syncing to Stream

Postby kyomi7502 » Mon Oct 08, 2012 5:56 pm

After the subsonic working perfectly all day on Friday from work, it now has skipping problems apparently.. It's most likely the connection here.
But just to make sure, I saw from the log I was using a ffmpeg from over a year ago. So I downloaded the latest static build for windows and popped the "ffmpeg.exe" into the c:\subsonic\transcode directory.

Now whenever it needs to transcode something, it will only say "Error Syncing to Stream" in winamp. (I use the External with Playlist option).
I've reverted back to the older version and it'll play.. but seems to pause for a few seconds and then continue with the song again every so-often (it's pretty random, sometimes it won't pause/skip for an entire song).

Code: Select all

Is all the log will say about it, where with the older version (I think it came with 4.7 final of subsonic) gives this:

If you have any insight please in enlighten me.
Thanks.

EDIT: I did nothing to the server over the weekend except copy some video files to the video directory. Subsonic was not messed with.
Would making some kind of QoS rule for subsonic traffic while I'm at work, help this? (If it's even possible).

Sorry, here's the server info:

Do a speedtest from work to see what kind of connection you have.

http://speedtest.net

See if you have the same problems when using Subsonic within your internal network.

You have to identify what's causing the problem. It's either a problem on the server or an issue with the internet connection. If you don't see any problems internally, have someone else test the server from a different external location. Almost anyone here in the forum will do that for you if you send logon info through a PM.

You should also test other Subsonic sites (inculding the Demo site) from where you're having the problem to see id other sites produce the same symptoms. If they do then you know it's something at your work location that is causing problems.

I'll send you a PM with logon to my site if you like so you can test from work.

The pausing/skipping has been solved, it was most likely some services that decided to run on monday as storage balancing.

Although I still have no idea why the new ffmpeg.exe I placed in the subsonic/transcode was causing problems and the older one did not.
Any ideas on that? I got the newest 32-bit static build from Zeronoe (I think it was what the website was, it was linked from the offical
ffmpeg page under "Windows Builds")

Storage balancing and any other intensive background service function can definitely cause problems on some systems. Glad to see you've identified the problem.

ffmpeg is constantly updated and rebuilt and released. I've found that the latest builds from the Zeranoe site usually work very well with Subsonic, but I've also still find some circumstances where i use some older versions of ffmpeg work better with certain file types and I save those for special uses. the bottom line is that although the situation is better today, the performance of ffmpeg can vary quite a bit depending on what you're using it for and some builds will work better than others in a given situation.
