How to change the indexing for the library

Postby cytisine » Tue Oct 09, 2012 12:05 am

Hello,

I'm new to subsonic and I got some compilation CDs which has a Various Artists in the Album Artists.
In the track artist is the actual name of the artists how is singing the song, but when I rescan the folders in the library in the column Artists it shows Various Artists and the name of the song.
My question: Is there a way to change the property for scanning the ID3 tags of the mp3 files and to write the Track Artist in the media library?

Thanks in advance.

Either install SS 4.6 which does use the Artist tag or check out the Mods section.
As you have found out 4.7 is using the Album Artist tag which is fine until you come to compilations :(
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, Image but some abuse the privilege!

Due to the confusion from too many genres of music, we have decided to put both country music and rap music into the genre of Crap music.

The problem is not so much in the showing the Various Artists, but in the search when I search the Artists name from the compilation with Album Artist "Various Artists" is says "No matches found" :(

I want to change the information which is written in the database so it will write the Track Artists, but not the Album Artist. So if anyone know which jsp to edit and what to edit I will be very thankful.

Cheers.

It is not done in the .jsp (that's the web presentation layer), so you'd need to check out the whole source code, change some .java files and build your own .war file.

I believe others have already done that, though. I know for sure that I have here: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=9504. Maybe it's done in the Madsonic mod too, I'm not sure about that.
