Migrating from Linux to Windows

Postby yarbo » Tue Oct 09, 2012 8:15 pm

I use to run Subsonic on an headless ubuntu box, which recently bit the dust. One of the hard drives no longer works (thankfully it was unrelated to Subsonic). The PSU also no longer works, but because the machine was really old to begin with, I have decided to not to fret the loss of this machine, and instead host Subsonic on my main desktop computer, which never gets turned off anyway. However, this machine runs Windows 7.

I've successfully migrated my music folders to the machine taking over, but sadly I no longer have any stats on how many times songs were played, and I've lost all of my starred albums and artists.

Because I still have my OS drive for the Ubuntu machine, it stands to reason that the subsonic installation is in there with all of the stats I want to move over. Is it possible to migrate this information from the old Ubuntu implementation into Windows 7? If so, what files do I need to move?

They'll get completely new paths on your Windows machine though, meaning you'd have to move your database from Linux to Windows and then create a script to map Linux paths to Windows paths. It's not super straight forward. Personally, I rather have last.fm keep track of my stats because then they are up to date even if I listen to music at work, at home or on the go, and I can import the stats anywhere.

How do I import my stats from Last.FM? I've been scrobbling for years.

Mostly, I was sad to have lost all of my starred items.

I'm doing it in my Subsonic mod - viewtopic.php?f=11&t=9504

However, stats are not displayed in the interface, they're just fetched nightly from last.fm and stored in the database, where they are used for weighting purposes to favor songs that I like in generated playlists.
