Postby kingzain74 » Tue Oct 02, 2012 6:57 pm

running subsonic 4.7 windows 7 pro 64-bit , is there a way to allows subsonic to pull the movies off my network that are on my HTPC ? the drives are mapped to the computer running subsonic but when i go to add them it keeps saying " folder not found" or is subsonic not able to read mapped drives ?

Subsonic cannot read mapped drives.

To access a network drive you must change the credentials that the subsonic server runs under to be a valid username and password on the remote device, and then add the network location via UNC path name.

I have the same problem here. I filled in a UNC path, SS runs under an account with the same login name and password as on the PC where my files are. I can acces the files from within windows with these credentials, still SS says "Folder not found". SS runs on a windows 7 32 bit PC, the PC where the files are on is a windows XP machine.
Does anybody have a solution for this?

It's definitely a permissions issue. The folder on the HTPC has to allow the service to access the data. Use an account on the HTPC that has rights to access the files. To test you should be able to use remote desktop to log onto the HTPC from a different workstation using the same credentials. If you use the same account that works with remote desktop as the logon credentials for Subsonic you should be ok.

Also look a t the share properties on the folder to be sure it is properly set for public sharing. From the machine that hosts Subsonic you should be able to pull up the folder in the network browser. If you can do that, you should be able to use the same credentials for the service as whatever you used to log onto the host.

so far i have not been able to get subsonic to read my files on my HTPC , i have tried setting permissions using my account on PC1 " god" to connect to PC2 " Media god " , my media computer is set to allow my account " GOD" to gain access to my drives on it ( mapped , remote desktop , network share , ect) i basically have full control of my media pc from PC 1 when logged into my "god" account . this is the current issue i am having

1. when in the windows services under the subsonic properties i set it to log onto using my user account " god" , after applying the setting and stopping the service on restart it says " can not start service due to log in fail " even though i am entering the correct password for my account .
2. i made another account called " admin 2" , after setting up on my media pc to allow this account also full control of all drives on it i tried also using that account when setting the subsonic services for that user account , i get the log in error also as stated above even though " admin 2" is not logged in on the moment

i dont see what would be causing this issue and its starting to become annoying before i would love to be able to have all of my 2000 movies on subsonic

I'm on domain so my setup is a bit different in that all my PC's can validate the logon through the controller. but in theory you should be able to set up the same username/password on each computer and then give that logon to the subsonic service.

If you get msg. log in fail then the credentials used are not valid on that PC. In order to avoid this problem I usually use the browse button when entering the username logon for the service and validate that it is correct though that function.

Open the services mmc and double click on the Subsonic service. Select the log on tab. Click on "This account" button. Once selected, click on the Browse button. Enter the accunt name in the white box, then click on Check Names. If you validate the account this way it should work.

If the account you enter has rights on the UNC share then there should be no problem. I've done this well over a hundred times on Subsonic. You're most likely missing a small detail or making a typo.
