I too would like to join the list of users that are unhappy with the idea of having to pony up more for an app we already paid for. I don't mind paying more to the developer for more features but a skin is hardly a new feature. (btw, many other apps allow for extra features without charge and many don't even charge for major overhauls).

This is especially frustrating with the debacle that 4.7 when I upgraded from 4.6. I am much more forgiving with apps that are on a donation basis (I usually, like in this case, pay a donation) vs. apps that force to pay. When I am forced to pay, I expect higher quality, better support, etc.

A side note, I know myself and a few other users would love to use their SD card to save their music on but get a "invalid cache location" error when attempting to use the sd card as a cache location. This is actually an Android issue and if done the way google says so, it will result in this error. Samsung is aware of the issue so they provided a work around (http://www.chainfire.eu/articles/113/Is ... SD_cards_/). If this was added to the upgrade, I would buy it because of its extra feature, but of course that is because I have a Galaxy S3....

To sum up, unless the direction of pay-to-play in conjunction with the myriad of issues is changed to either a higher quality with the pay or back to a donation basis, I will be looking for alternatives. I would love to see an explanation of what and why it happened.

Paying for a new skin IS annoying. I think the most annoying part is the ol' switcharoo. I really don't have a problem with Sindre making money on the app, but a heads up or maybe two different versions would be in order. Make the new payed for feature rich (not just a skin!).

I've been waiting for Lock Screen controls and (even better) JellyBean notification screen controls. Had the app had those I would have purchased the "ad free" version in a second. Those would be huge features I'm more than willing to pay for. And if that's coming down the pipe please, let people know! As it stands we got an ad laden skin with no new features to speak of. Annoying to say the least.

Have you checked to see if the transcoding is selected for the Android Player that you're using. I'd also try the Dsub app as I have reports that it is working on JB without problems. I have a friend with an SIII on a JB rom. I'll ask him to test ogg on my site to see if it works for him.

I'm still on an ICS rom and everything works fine. I won't be moving to JB until after the official release gets cleaned and posted. I'll let you know if I get a successful test.

Ya I've tried everything I can think of. Like I said it just hasn't worked right on this particular phone since day one. My brother has same phone and access to my server with same issues. I have a Samsung galaxy MP3 player running GB with no issues on my server.

I won't be updating until this mess is sorted out. It all seems rather out of character for this project.

Initial testing indicates this might be a problem with JB. I tried a few different apk's with my SIII running ICS and only the recent and previous standard Subsonic apk's worked with ogg on ICS. The standard Subsonic app would not use ogg on my friends phone with any apk tested. He's running a custom JB based rom.

So I'm guessing either Sindre is not reading these posts or is choosing not to reply. I emailed him last week to but with no reply. Oh well. Seem us mortal users have been dumped on. Capitalism rules eh?

Actually, looking at his forum profile, he hasn't been online for about a week. Now the reason for that of course could be any of the above...

I agree that an announcement in the forums stating that the next app release will include ads with a "pay to remove" option would have been a better way to go, especially to all of you who have donated money, time, troubleshooting, forum help, etc... But.....in this day's economy, you really can't blame anyone for trying to make a buck in some way. We have all used Sindre's product for free for many years now, some have "donated" (yes I know some have issues with that word as well) for some extra perks and with this update it seems that one of them...the mobile app...has been altered a bit by including ads. Quite honestly, I didn't know what the complaint's were about because I updated the app, and never saw ads because I use SS on my phone while it is on my windshield mount and in landscape array, so the ad bar at the bottom doesn't show....Now using the app on my Google TV box may be annoying with ads, but I may just not update that one.

We all do have a choice to update or not, and it did say Ad supported as a change before you click on Accept.....
Those who don't like it, just Google "subsonic.apk" and find an older version to re install, or search your phone for the backup apk of SS

As I stated, I do agree this could have been handled differently, but We should also remember the best 4 letter word to describe this project of Sindre's
and that word is : FREE

Personally I would have paid a good chunk of money for this project given the scope of it all and the fact that I use it basically every day. I realize that not everyone wants to pay a lot for software and specifically mobile apps but to me it wouldn't have been unreasonable to just set a price and allow people to donate beyond that. My issue is more with the lack of communication from the developer. Rarely do you see an issue brought up in the forum that he responds too or says he needs a log or he's looking into it etc. Android itself went several versions before there was even an update to the android app, which is what the donation was for to begin with and even then its not working right on the galaxy nexus. Anyhow I guess at the very least a little acknowledgement and communication goes a long way.

Just did a test on my Acer 510 tab running ICS and the choppy play is there as well until I inserted an SD card and subsonic automatically caches to it and it plays flawlessly. So I'm convinced if there isn't an external SD card subsonic just doesn't like it. So I'd guess its an I/O read/write problem.

I guess you mean free as in freedom, not free as in free beer. Well I haven't seen the source code for the latest app update? I'd like to hear if it's going closed source from here to protect it from people removing the ads. This really deserves a post in the Announcement section by Sindre.

It's all in the SVN (http://sourceforge.net/p/subsonic/code/ or svn://svn.code.sf.net/p/subsonic/code/trunk), the last commit is r3264 from 18.10.
