That is because the above thing is not official.

pcs800 wrote:Yeah, it won't update a currently installed version, you have to uninstall before installing this one.

That is because I do not have the key the original developer used to sign the application file, and the phone verifies the signature of the app. It then sees that a different person signed, and rejects the new version.

Couple of bugs found with the client side Android Subsonic application in version number 3.5.
First off I’m using a Google Nexus 7 16GB tablet. The OS revision that it is using is v4.1.2.
The first bug is when playing a song with Subsonic through the Android application I get dropouts which last .3 - .5 seconds it only happens once or twice in a song but it is very annoying. Second any song I play has the issue but the song is coming off my local network and the entire song is done being cached with 5-7 seconds. Next if I play the cached copy with another player such as the Google Music player it plays perfectly fine however if I go back to Subsonic I get the .3 - .5 second dropouts again. I tried the 2 previously released versions of the app and the problem still exists. So it seems it’s an issue between the app and the new Android Jellybean OS.

Next issue is the library fails to update within the app as I added an album and I still can’t see it in the list unless I specifically search for it using the search feature.

BTW I purchased the ad removal for the new android app and have donated for my server. Figured it was time to make another donation anyhow.

Sindre isn't giving this away at all, it is a fork from one of the user base therefore not an official release.

This seems ok on mine. I have noticed though that my other music apps do not scan the Subsonic directory even thought the 'hide' switch is off. It's fine if I change the Subsonic library location to where I keep other media. this used to be fine in the previous release. Not a biggy by any means - just a bit annoying :D

Hey Zappos your right. I figured out the the directory refresh issue. Anyway I deserve to be b*tch-slapped as I didn't notice the refresh icon. I pushed it and it worked fine. However the other issue still exist and it certainly is in need of a bug fix.

Thanks for providing the fork! It looks like the "official" android app was just updated. What were the changes?

" - Added seperate button for toggling between offline/connected mode
- Fixed problem with purchase not being registered. "

So, by the looks of it, the purchase functionality wasn't even working correctly. But more importantly, the purchase option hasn't been removed at all.
In the mean while we have yet to receive a statement/explanation from sindre. I can see he read these posts but refrained from posting. What gives?

A shining example of customer service - not. I guess he is just thinking it will weather out - which it probably will to be honest after a while. However, it does seem particularly stupid not respond. Just serves to upset people more - especially if we know he has actually read these posts! :?

ps. He still hasn't replied to my direct email - I suspect his in-box is a bit full.....

Which bit? Is the update to catch the release changes? I assume I have to uninstall again first? Not a problem and well worth the pain! Thanks again for providing the fork. As it's open source perhaps you ought to post this as an alternative on Google Play.....

ahah, it updated fine without the uninstall - even better!

Dear all,

Ok, I screwed this one up big time!

I'm very sorry for not announcing/discussing the introduction of ads in the Android app prior to the update.
It was never my intention to step on the toes of my most loyal users.

The background for the change was that the income from selling server-side licenses has continuously dropped during the last year (perhaps not surprisingly since they are lifetime licenses). So to be able to fund further development I was looking for alternatives. Since many of the other Subsonic smartphone apps are paid, I didn't think people would mind too much if the Android app too would be non-free. However, Google doesn't allow changing a free app to a paid one so that's why I chose to use ads instead.

Yes, I should have communicated this much better and I apologize for that. It was very bad form, indeed.

In the meantime I have prepared an ad-free version for anyone to download, see http://www.subsonic.org/pages/apps.jsp#android
(The version on Google Play is still ad-supported.)

I have also changed the language on the subsonic.org pages to more clearly reflect the changed circumstances.

Again, sorry for the terrible handling of all this!

Apology accepted.

I will buy the app in the Play Store.

I think the 4.7 development also deserves another donation. I will do that as well.

I brought it up to date with the master branch. Anyway, there is an official release now, I encourage everyone to use that one. Deleting my repository.
