downsampling issue with ffmpeg/android

Postby jasonf925 » Thu Oct 25, 2012 6:30 am

I have just upgraded to the newest android client and server version.
Downsampling to android was working fine before.

Server:
Version 4.7 (build 3105) – September 11, 2012
Server jetty-6.1.x, java 1.7.0_09, Linux (97.2 MB / 145.0 MB)
Android app: v3.6

I'm unsure which downsampling command I was using previous to the upgrade, but after upgrading it was set to use ffmpeg. I reviewed the settings under recommended, and tried an encode with ffmpeg manually using the same command, but outputting to a file instead of a pipe. I could play the output file just fine with mplayer. The android app however just hangs, and cannot play any song that is downsampled. It will play a NON downsampled song just fine.

I tried to play the resuling file that was copied to my android phone SD card with an external player, it could not play the file. I also copied it back to my PC, and mplayer will NOT play the transcoded file. The file is also quite a bit larger than I expect it to be. my ffmpeg version is 1.0. Running the server on archlinux.

Somehow the transcoded file is not coming across to the android player correctly. I do not see anything wrong in the subsonic logs, it just gives the transcode command, and then moves on to the next song.

I have change the downsampling command in subsonic settings back to the older lame command, and it's downsampling and playing fine on the android app again. This does not seem to be the recommended setting any longer though, but I cant seem to get it working via ffmpeg.
