UNC paths ok, DFS paths not working :(

Postby NiknakSi » Tue Oct 30, 2012 7:59 am

Hi

I've just gone through the process of creating a new domain user account for the Subsonic service and reconfiguring the service entry to run under this account. The user has correct access to the UNC and DFS paths I'm trying and if I try a normal UNC path directly to a single machine it's all ok. However, if I try the DFS path that I'd rather use then Subsonic spits out the following log info:

[30/10/12 07:46:51 GMT] INFO MediaScannerService Starting to scan media library.
[30/10/12 07:46:51 GMT] INFO MediaScannerService Scanned media library with 0 entries.

My UNC path that works is: \\[machine name]\Music\Albums
My DFS path that does not work is: \\[domain name]\SAN\Media\Music\Albums

Is this a Subsonic limitation some how? Is it possible to enable more verbose logging to try and discover where the problem lies?

Many thanks :)

I know that SS does not work with mapped drives so its no surprise that it will have problems with DFS paths :(
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, Image but some abuse the privilege!

Due to the confusion from too many genres of music, we have decided to put both country music and rap music into the genre of Crap music.

I use subsonic with a mounted network drive running on Ubuntu server with no issues. My guess would be it is because subsonic is dealing with multiple physical drives as a single logical drive and doesn't like it. Another thought is authentication. Accessing a resource on the domain level requires it touch your DC. A UNC directly to a resource without specifying a domain may not. I'm on the Cisco side so I may be wrong.

One more thing. Did you make sure to enable ldap authentication on the advanced tab in subsonic?
