Subsonic don't see folders with parentheses?

Postby obidamnkenobi » Tue Oct 30, 2012 4:46 pm

I recently went through and finally organized my whole music folder to show up correctly, and consistently in Subsonic. I used this system:
/music/Artist/(year) Album/# - track title

However I've found out that every artist folder where all the files are in this system show up as empty in Subsonic; "no media found". Some songs did show up and I found out that the ones were due to some organizing errors where it's instead: /Artist/Year Album. No parentheses around the year.

Is this a known issue in subsonic and the way it reads folders? Should I rename all my albums again to omit the parentheses?

I'm running Subsonic on a Ubuntu 12.04 server with the media on an internal HDD.
Thanks.

I'm not a Linux user, but I've always made it practice to never use any punctuation symbol in a file name. You can never predict what environment or useage will go nuts and interpret the symbol incorrectly, be it the OS, Java, a database used, program, etc.

Basic stay out of trouble practice.

Also 4.7 has no problems with folder/file names containing parentheses or square brackets running under windows.

Due to the confusion from too many genres of music, we have decided to put both country music and rap music into the genre of Crap music.

It's still a bad habit to get into, unless you want to remember all the various exceptions where it can cause problems. I just find it a whole lot easier to avoid things that have the potential to screw things up.

Ok, I'm still having some issues with files not showing up in subsonic. I redid the naming in the library a while ago, taking out any parentheses.
Current structure, example: /Music/Anthrax/1990 - Persistence Of Time

But now nothing shows up in subsonic! I've rescanned and deleted and reset the folder several times, and also restarted the server. All the artists show up, but they are empty with no albums. The app says no media found. Is starting with year causing a problem? I really don't want to rename everything again (even if it just takes a few minutes with mp3tag-rename). And it seems unlikely that would be the cause anyway.

edit: when I click "rescan media" the notification shows up saying "scanning files: 45" etc, but it stops after about 300 and disappear. That does not seem right, I have about 12k files.
edit-edit: Renamed the folder Music to Musics, and rescan seems to work. Ref this discussion viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10313
