Getting video to play on Android is getting a bit tricky these days as Subsonic relies on flash, which is being phased out and will probably not install on Jelly Bean. If you're still on ICS you need to install flash and enable it in your browser.

I've just tested video on my S3 running Jellybean and Subsonic 4.7. The video played OK from within the default web browser.

That's very interesting. Did you install flash? If so, how? If not, what format video are you getting to play? What transcodings?

Please share the details of how you have this working.

Thanks

I have Adobe Flash Player 11.1.115.117 installed on Android 4.1.1.

I didn't do anything special but I did originally install Flash when I was running ICS. When I installed Jellybean and I did a clean install I did a restore from backup which is how the Adobe Flash Player got there. Just doing a search of the Play store I don't see it which I didn't realise was an issue with Jellybean.

Hypothetical question: If I was to create back up with just Abode Flash could that be restored onto another users S3?

Those are issues I'm trying to figure out. I had Flash on ICS as well, but when I upgraded to JB it became inoperative. I then did a factory reset to stock latest Jelly Bean OTA and then rooted and installed a custom rom that has worked very well so far. I then tried to use the App Installer from the Play Store to install Flash, but it gets blocked.

It seems as though the latest OTA is a bit more aggressive at blocking Flash than earlier versions of JB or ICS. Obviously Subsonic users need a remedy that will work in the future as everyone seems to be abandoning Flash.

Don't let go of what you have if video playback is what you want as updates may knock you out of the game.
