Re: 4.7 not handling folders right

How do I roll back to the previous version? Most of my folders are messed up, and I have a things organized in a rigid folder structure on my server, all files named by track-artist-title.extension, inside /year/artist/album path.

Is there a way to sort things properly on 4.7?

What operating system? Ubuntu is easy, just re-install 4.6 and it will downgrade keeping all the settings.

In Windows I guess you could backup the Subsonic program folder. Then uninstall 4.7 and re-install 4.6. Not sure what file the config settings are saved in Windows but it's probably in that programs folder.

Ah, yes, I'm running it on Ubuntu server. If it's that simple, maybe I'll downgrade it this weekend. I still have to test the music cabinet solution.

Let me just point out that MusicCabinet is primarily designed for people having a well tagged music collection, not a specific folder layout. All artists in the left frame are taken from what artists are found in the tags of your files. You can still access your folder structure and browse it that way, but your "Genres" folders won't appear in the left frame.

The left frame instead contains a "genre filter" that works like this: http://imgur.com/a/8y7XS#0

Changing sorting in 4.7

Postby jl55378008 » Sat Nov 03, 2012 6:08 pm

In 4.7, my folders aren't sorted alphabetically anymore. They seem to be sorting by the date that the folder was added or something.

Is there a way to change this in settings?

Thanks, Hakko. I've tested it and you're right. It doesn't solve my problem. Like jl55378008, my files are being sorted by some other criteria and this is not good at all. It's a pity because I use subsonic a lot.

Fixed-Shuffle mode, all the time. ☹

If you have consistent file names, why don't you use a tool that automatically updates your tags based on a rule that describes your file names?

I'm a little obsessed with my collection. All my files are properly tagged (to the best of my knowledge). I use Puddletag to tag the files and then I write the filenames accordingly always following the same schema using Puddletag's renaming feature. Subsonic is displaying the correct order on some albums, but not on others.

I have already verified the tags on 2 different albums, one that works ok and other that it's all messed up. I can't figure out what's wrong with them.

Note: the 2 albums have the same titles, as they are from the same work, the Goldberg Variations, by Bach. All tags are almost the same except for the performer's name.

I thought this would be fixed once 4.7 was out of beta.

So if I understand you correctly, Subsonic is now sorting your music by id3 tags instead of directory structure. Is this correct?

No. Alphabetically, so it seems. I'm not sure, though.

hi,

I add a new feature to my Madsonic Mod to sort the albums by foldernames.

OK, but it's not based on directory structure. Correct? I was thinking of upgrading from 4.5 to 4.7, but now I'm glad I didn't. Is there any reason at all to get off 4.5?

I am having the same issue. I upgrade to 4.7 and when i look at my directory structure it is all over the place now. Nothing is in alphabetic order. Is there a fix for this in the pipeline? Otherwise I will have to downgrade back to 4.5. It is way too annoying and hard to find things.

Thanks

we've been reporting it since the first 4.7 beta. There was even a short-lived checkbox to override this behavior that was later removed.

The developers have chosen to ignore us. But please do donate *sarcasm*.
