Transcoding command help

Postby fitzy89 » Tue Nov 20, 2012 1:25 am

Hello all

The connection that my subsonic server is hosted on has a very limited upload speed and I get regular buffering on the mobile client with default transcoding settings, the buffering is due to the upload speed of the server connection being so low.

I would like to transcode all mp3 files to 32kbps aac as this gives decent enough audio quality at a low bitrate. Please could someone help me out with the transcoding command for this?

Regards
Rob

I'd suggest trying ogg at q -2.

ffmpeg -v 0 -i %s -f ogg -vn -acodec libvorbis -ar 44100 -aq -2 -ac 2 -map_meta_data 0:0 -

q values can be found at

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vorbis#Technical_details

q 0 is about 64kbps and is pretty decent. I haven't tested lower values.
