Ubuntu 12.04 Folders Not Found?

Postby innerspaceboy » Sat Dec 15, 2012 6:06 am

PLEASE MOVE TO NEXT COMMENT, THE INITIAL ISSUE OF CONNECTING HAS BEEN RESOLVED.

After years of running Subsonic on my Windows partition I've FINALLY installed Subsonic successfully on my Ubuntu partition.

It worked right off the bat with the default root user settings but I read that it is advised that I change the config file to set the USER value to something other than root.

What I've tried:

Tried subsituting my Ubuntu user name, entered it in the same all-lower case that it appears in when I log in.

Unfortunately, the Subsonic login screen does not connect when I navigate to http://localhost:4040 as it does with USER set to root.

I imagine the problem is a port setting that no longer works for non-root users? I'm sure there is a quick and easy solution.

Can anyone advise? Thank you.

I never got around to doing the same, but have you made sure your user has permissions to both the music files and the /var/subsonic folder?

UPDATE:

Followed the instructions from this site: https://unlockforus.com/installing-subsonic-music-streamer-in-ubuntu-server-10-04-lts-lucid-lynx-2

All commands worked except for this -
chown -R subsonic:nogroup /tmp/subsonic
(No such file or directory)

After successfully creating and granting permissions to the subsonic process for user=subsonic and changing the config line to USER=subsonic as specified in the instructions above, I can now successfully connect to the Subsonic login screen and login as my normal username.

Once connected, the MEDIA FOLDERS screen has changed. As root, my folder paths worked fine. But now my folders have "FOLDER NOT FOUND" in red text beside each one.

These are Windows partition file locations which worked fine as root.

/media/classybastard/Audio
/media/classybastard/Video

I can navigate to the folders fine, but they no longer can be found by Subsonic after following the direction in the guide above.

Thanks for ANY help!
