Subsonic on Netgear ReadyNAS nv+ V2.

I have been searching for the possibility to run Subsonic on this NAS box, but I cant find any info on it. Has anyone done this, or know if its possible?
I dont need transcoding, and its only for music. If anyone can help out - greatly appreciated.

Does it run Linux?

If so, can you get Telnet root access to it?

if so, is there a Java package available for it?

If so, is there an ffmpeg package available for it?

Does it have a fair amount of RAM and CPU power?

If so, it can probably run Subsonic. But I bet no one has written a guide for it... you are going to have to fumble through it. But the basic procedure is:

• Get root access to the device
• Install Java
• Install FFMPEG
• Install Subsonic
• Tweak the startup files on the NAS to start subsonic when the NAS boots.

Someone posted a guide on installing on a QNAP device, so the process may be similar, but not exactly the same.

I've actually been looking into a Synology device (haven't had much luck with Netgear devices myself), and my plan was to run Subsonic on a computer, but store the music/videos on the Synology device, and point SS to that under "Media Folders".

I actually ended up buying a Synology DS213 to run it from - and its working fine. Its quite a change going from a home computer to a NAS (processing speed wise, its definitively not as snappy) but it certainly works. If I had more money Id go for an x86 processor with quite a lot of RAM were I to make the purchase again.

Did you end up installing SS directly on the Synology, or just using the Synology for storage and running SS from a Windows/Linux machine with the Synology as a media folder?

I've been looking at Synology devices too, specifically the DS412+. Only thing holding me back is the cost of that plus 3 new 2TB drives (I already have 1).

I am running it on the Synology itself. You have to install Java on it (third party install) and then Subsonic. A bit fidgety if you are a complete novice to anything (which I assume you are not), and once that is in place, use the packages containing Subsonic. It was fairly smooth sailing, and there you have it; Subsonic on a NAS. The DS213+ is supported, and yes, it looks nice. I would recommend the WD Red disks, which I use, and in Norway they are about 130 USD for the 2TB version, which is sufficient for me. I don't do transcoding at all though, which is fine. Everything is converted to mp3's beforehand; saves space and CPU time.

Hmm, reading this I was hoping someone had found a solution. I have a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo V2 which runs off the same ARM processor. Unfortunately I don't have the time or patience to tinker with anything Linux anymore. I see that someone has it working for x86 Netgear machines

Well even if I could afford to buy another piece of hardware I wouldn't. I'm a bit disappointed over this because streaming music from anywhere was the second biggest reason I purchased the NAS.
