iSub Supports Video Now - Any Hope for Android?

Postby MikeNE » Fri Dec 21, 2012 2:19 am

Topic says it all really. Now that iSub supports video on my iDevices, the only thing keeping me from removing other services from my server (Qloud Media, Air Video, etc.) is the inability to stream Subsonic video to my Nexus 7. iSub does a nice job, and dynamically adjusts for bandwidth.

Are there any plans to update the official Android app to support video the same way? I really don't want to start playing with hacks to get flash to work...if there are any left.

Any thoughts? Or does it already work and I'm missing something?
Thanks,
MikeNE

It's pretty straight forward.

Videos are playing fine on my GSIII running Jelly Bean.

The whole point for my post was that I didn't want to load Flash. I've also read that there are issues getting it to work properly with Jelly Bean (regardless of the instructions). Are you running JB 4.2.1? Does it work just as well with tablets?

I'd just like to see all of Subsonic - server and clients - move away from relying on Flash. It's the only thing that keeps me from moving to Subsonic as my sole streaming client.

I also like the way iSub allows you to set the target bandwidth depending on your connection type (Wifi or Cellular). Does the Subsonic app with Flash installed allow you to do this?

Thanks...

No, you can just set your bitrate on the flash player.

I broke down and installed flash on my Nexus 7. Chrome, Dolphin and Firefox all don't support flash on JB, so I'm having no luck. Is there a browser that works? Again, I'd still prefer a non-flash solution from Subsonic....is one being worked?

Unfortunately, I'm regretting buying an Android device now that iSub provides a complete solution for my iPhone...

Ok...for those who care, I got it working with Firefox. Looks like I needed to reboot my Nexus after doing the Flash installation. This is still a far less desirable solution than a non-Flash one. It opens videos in a small browser window which I then need to maximize. So, I guess my original request stands...an iSub-like solution that uses either an internal or external player, and allows for bandwidth customization. Thanks for the pointers on Flash.
