Switching Computers

Postby brokenbricks » Thu Jan 10, 2013 4:30 pm

Hi all,
I just moved to a new computer so I installed Subsonic and tried to set it up. Problem is everytime I go and put in the folder it tells me it cannot be found. Any have any issues like this or know what I can try to resolve this?

Thanks.

What does "put in the folder" mean?

What is the path to the media folder that you are trying to add?

Have you tried to put the path in quotes?

I've never tried to use a path with spaces in it before... I can try it if the quotes don't work.

No luck. I even tried a another folder I have music in which is just called Dump.

Still says the same thing. Can't figure out why it can't see the path.

D: is a locally attached drive, and not a network drive of some kind, right?

That is correct it is a locally attached drive. This is a VMware virtual machine. Shouldn't matter as I had it running on another server but then installed the new 2012 server and wanted to put it on that.

Set up a test directory on the C: drive and see if that works.

Second: "Eric's"

I NEVER use punctuation marks in folder or path names. I can' remember all the invalid characters in any given situation especially as I occasionally use Linux and like having inteoperability between the systems so I always keep naming descriptive but simple.

Try D:\Music and put a few test album folders in there

e.g. D:\Music\Beatles\Abbey Road

Let us know how that works.

If it doesn't work on D: try same on C: but I can't think of why it wouldn't work on either.

I'm assuming you're on Windows right?

Yup, just switched to Windows 2012. Not sure if that has any bearing?

I did try d:\dump which has a bunch of music but no luck.

I will try c:\ and let you know.

Yes, for some reason C:\temp with music in there works.

Any ideas why?

Well as is often the case when you ignore trying the suggestions I've already given, there isn't much more I can tell you.

I lay out specific things to try and you respond that you did something different and then ask me why what you did didn't work.

Beats me.

X:\Music\Artist\Album\tracks

has worked for me in every one of the over 200 Subsonic instances I've installed.

you want to try something else - go ahead and let us know how that works for you.

Oh, sorry, that's what you just did - my bad.

Oh, BTW - if you do try what I suggest, be sure to rescan the media folders.

How about permissions on the D:\ Drive?

If that is a secondary drive from another computer, the Windows 2012 system user account may be denied access.

Try setting the Subsonic service to run with your local username and password instead of the system account... restart the service, and try to add a folder from D:.

If that works, adding the system account to the folder's permission list should solve the root problem...

Good point Glenn.

Is the D: drive within the VM or are you trying to access the D: drive of the physical host machine?

If that's the case he needs to set it up as a share and edit the SS service logon account.
