Error

Postby pcs800 » Thu Jan 10, 2013 9:13 pm

It said to report this, so here it is.
About every few months, subsonic gets goofed up on my server and I have to reinstall it fresh. I think it's something to do with the database getting too big.

What memory limit have you given SS (Java) and what's the SS version?

I doubt its a database size limit as we have forum members with over 1 million songs unless your library is very large

subsonic memory limit is at 150, it is the latest version downloaded from the web site today.
That is after reinstalling today. Prior to that I had reinstalled a couple months ago, so that is how old the version was.
I have 120GB+ of music, all are 192kb/s mp3 format.
Not sure how many songs, but it's tens of thousands.

Also, even after reinstalling, I get no albums showing under Home>Random

When subsonic starts acting funny, showing 404's or other issues. The database is huge, like 2GB or more. Currently just after reinstalling, the DB is about 1.5MB. In previous forum posts, people had guessed this is what causes it to behave badly, so I have to remove and reinstall.
If I try to save my users, etc and put them back into a new installation by replacing files at C:\subsonic, the new installation is hosed too.

If your db is growing that large that would indicate a problem :?
I have both SS 4.6 & 4.7 running on my server and neither c:/subsonicxx folder is larger then 350MB in total
and that is indexing over 1 TB of mp3's (125k tracks)
One thing to check however is the size of the SS log file which can grow to a very large size - stop & restarting SS cures that.
With 4.7 I think the default 150 is ok for normal size library's (seems to use less memory then 4.6) although I use 250 MB for both.

SS will tell you in the left frame (top of frame 4.6, bottom 4.7 (after indexing))

The server that ss is running on reboots every night at 1am,so restarting the ss service shouldn't be an issue.

574 artists
1,705 albums
20,742 songs
132.92 GB
1,551 hours

The random album covers started working after a day or so, I guess it had to index. There is still the problem where SS gets goofed up every few months.

Most errors of this nature are usually related to improper shutdowns that don't allow the files to close properly.
