Subsonic slow?

Postby Final Fantasy Fanatic » Sun Apr 26, 2009 1:50 pm

I've just started using subsonic but I'm finding that accessing it is very slow. E.g. I log into subsonic with the admin account but it takes a horrendous amount of time, like 10 or 15 minutes before I get anywhere.

I'm guessing it's not suppose to be like this?

No it should not be. I would make sure you do not have a lot of files/folders in the music path you are sharing.

Subsonic assumes your media is arraged in the following folder structure: Artist/AlbumName/Musicfile

If you have a lot of files at the top level subsonic assumes they are all artists and will list them in the left hand pane. That seems to be the most common issue.

If you do not have your music orgainzed like I listed above I would suggest downloading MediaMonkey and using it to autoorganize your music for you.

Umm... What if I haven't started adding music to it yet? BTW why does the red X on the tray icon mean? Server's not running or some other error? I just haven't had any success with Subsonic so far.

EDIT: Does using the standalone installer make a difference.

The red X in the tray icon means that Subsonic isnt running. Right click on it and open the subsonic console. Then you should be able to start subsonic.

After it is started you can right click again and choose to open subsonic in a browser.

Still no success, I've got Java 6 and I've installed the stand alone correctly, I've forwarded ports on my software firewall and on my router. I can't even access it on my computer that has it installed (endless loads or it's terribly slow). I haven't even added any music to it yet.

The red X means the service is not running. You'll never access it when that is displayed. How are you trying to access it?

^ By typing http://localhost/ or the server's IP adress into my browser window. But the I still find Subsonic very slow or it's forever loading even when the server is started and there is no red X on the Tray Icon. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program and still no improvement. It seems to just work on very rare occasions.

EDIT: I also have TVersity which is similar to subsonic and had little trouble with it which is why I'm stumped when it comes to subsonic not working correctly.

It's usually only slow when it needs to build the search index. Depending upon the size of your collection, it's best to get that kicked off and let it run then try to use it a day later. That's my experience.

Okay so I've done a fresh install, I haven't tried to access it in my browser, I should just leave it alone to run in the background (no music has been added to it obviously)?

I would add the music first so it can begin building the indexes. I have never had this issue though with a new install but I only am using about 30GB of music.

I'm running subsonic on my virtual machine windows xp under linux.
my server config is: AMD sempron 3000+ 1,6GHz and 512MB ram for xp.
my server load it's very very low (it's a storage server, and internet router)

Everything it's fine with subsonic, except that loading of the left side (albums)
it's very very very slow something like 10 min everytime i open the website. I have only 80G of music organized very simple like Folder/Artist - Album

what's wrong?
thank you

Since I did I fresh install I get nothing but an endless loading of the page (I've left it going for 20 minutes and no login page has come up). I've only got 35Gigs worth of music to add which I haven't been able to do since I downloaded and installed Subsonic the first time.

I just install subsonic direct on linux instead of xp virtual box and everything works absolutely perfect. ultra fast loading time.
I think the problem is between samba and windows or something like this.

I don't know what I can do to resolve this, I've tried uninstalling/re-installing, updating Java (not that there was much to update), checking my firewall settings, changing Subsonic's port number, tried Firefox 3 and IE8. Same results, endless reloading.

It sits at the loading screen forever, no login menu appears.

Here are my settings:

I don't know how helpful this will be but this is my subsonic log:

Go ahead and change your port again in the console to something else in case there is an issue with port 80. Go ahead and use port 89 and then save the change. Stop the Subsonic service through the console and then start it again. Once the red X is gone open IE and try the below 2 URLs.

http://localhost:89/index.view
http://127.0.0.1:89/index.view

Hopefully you will get a different result. Good luck!
