Recent AudioGalaxy convert...few issues/questions.

Postby $chlitz » Wed Feb 06, 2013 5:54 pm

just a few issues i've noticed since switching to SubSonic from AudioGalaxy (RIP) a few weeks ago.

first and foremost, a "shuffle all" feature sure would be nice. the android app has it...why is it so difficult to implement in the web player? apparently people have been asking for this feature for years now. i've been making random 50 song playlists and shuffling them, which works okay, but is certainly NOT ideal.

second, is there ANY way to force the "playing" to auto-update with each new track? if i click the "playing" button it updates, but why can't this just be done automatically? new song starts, new album art shows up...doesn't seem like too much to ask. i managed to find an older post that discussed changing the time between refreshes, (http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8693) but it was telling me to add a line of code to the playlist.jsp file, and i just couldn't find where it was telling me to add the code. guessing this was for an older version? i just want the "playing" screen to reflect what is actually currently playing, not what was playing the last time i clicked the "playing" button.

finally, it appears there was a feature a while back to download missing album art. is there no longer any way to do this? all my music is properly tagged...i'm pretty anal about that. so i know for a fact that 95% of my collection has the proper album art attached, yet i'm still getting way more missing images than i think i should.

any help is much appreciated!

one other thing...within the last week or so, whenever i initially open the web player there is a white box that pops up in the center of the screen that says "error". no other information is given, just "error." not very helpful. if i click "okay," the box goes away and things seem to work just fine. anyone know what this random "error" might be and how to rectify it? thanks!

I can answer the last one... it has something to do with the player that used to be associated with that IP address (and is stored in the local cookie) not existing anymore.

I've only had it happen to me a couple of times, and always after I've been mucking with players. A service restart always clears the issue.

Once I implemented a log rolling script (which restarts the service, saving the log in between) it became a moot point, because the service is started at least once a week and has a chance to do player maintenance itself.

As the first three questions,

1. Yes, it has been often requested. I can't explain why it hasn't happened other than the fact that it hasn't been important enough to Sindre.

2. I thought it did that automatically. It used to...

3. There are much better tools for this than Subsonic, but have you verified that the name that you use for the art files (cover.jpg, or art.jpg, or whatever) is listed in the cover art setting? Or are you talking about embedded art?

IIRC, a playlist had hard limits (I don't recall how many entries) before Subsonic choked. Still, I'd think a dev could increase the 50 in the code to say, 500...
