Would Mashup mod be usefull for me? I am using a folder structure of /root/genre/artist - album (year) for my folders. Meaning that the bar on the left side will only show the genre, such as Funk, and when clicking this it will show the subfolders containing, as above, folders named as "artist - album (year)". From what I saw it only reads the tags and shows the album name only, has anyone looked into changing this, or found a way to work around it? Or is it still being concidered a change for the next release?

Settings/General - Sort albums by foldername.

Settings/General - Sort files by filename.

I do not have these options on my distribution (for the Synology NAS). This must be a new feature in a version I dont have?

This is a cross-platform application. It should be the same screen regardless of OS. I could be wrong, Mad Evil can probably answer that, but on my site, if you go to Settings/General, about halfway down the window there are five check boxes grouped together where you can check these options, right above the default left frame size setting.

Are you scrolling the screen and reading all options?

Those options are only in the Madsonic installation. And since you are asking "will Madsonic solve these problems for me?" I am going to assume that you have not actually installed it, correct?

That is why your version does not have those options... But neither of them is going to help you with your issue. You are still going to have genre's listed on the left instead of artists based on the directory structure you described.

To "fix" the issue, you really have three choices:
1. Get rid of the genre folder in the directory structure that you described, and make the structure Artist\Album\tracks
2. Add each of your "genre" folders as a separate media source folder.
3. Use the Music Cabinet mod, which switches browsing from "folder based" to "Tag based."

I only have two checkboxes in general:
Show albums year
Show "Getting started" on startup

No other check boxes Im afraid. I have installed it, and it is running.

I think its a good idea to put each genre in a specific folder - and add them individually, thish might be the best solution for me actually. All songs are properly tagged, so that should work out.

Glenn's explanation is more accurate.

I do like the Madsonic mod and highly recommend it regardless of which strategy you go with for organizing your music.

Are you sure that you are logged in with an account that has administrator rights?

Yes, I have administrator rights. Keep in mind that Im using the Synology distribution found here; http://www.eg-blog.de/?cat=8 updated 2 months ago. So any changes done since then wont be in here I guess. Its currently scanning my collection (apx 90.000 songs, so its taking a while), but I dont know if that should matter in this case. However, I think the solution of putting the genres in individual folders might be the best solution at the moment. This will yield a dropdown box on the right hand side, right?

Oops, am I right in that there is a difference between Madsonic and Mashup mod? I might be very wrong here - what I have is Mashup Mod, which is part of the Subsonic package I described earlier.

Madsonic - Mashup Mod [MAIN]

Postby Robocop » Sat Feb 02, 2013 5:53 pm

Hi Madevil, I did PM you but just in case anyone else has a similar issue, I cannot seem to install 4.8 beta 3320 on Fedora CentOS 5.3.
I'm using GigaPros' Subsonic VPS package so although I have root control - I have no control over the VPS OS version. I was able to install the 4.7 package all ok though, on 4.8 I get

rpmlib(FileDigests) is needed by madsonic-4.8.beta3-3320.i386
rpmlib(PayloadIsXz) is needed by madsonic-4.8.beta3-3320.i386

Anything you can look at for the next beta? Cheers, Robocop.

In the most recent version 4.8.3340.beta3, the accordion option seems to have a whole lot of extra space below the last artist when you open it up. Anyway I can go in and fix that?

Are there java v1.6 versions available - you used to call them "SE" versions in v4.7. Updated the java version on my NAS box is a real pain....

3360 version is available here: http://madsonic.org/download/20130307_s ... a3-war.zip

(I think this actually addresses/fixes the extra space issue)
