scanning but not picking up new files

Postby mbu10 » Tue Feb 26, 2013 1:00 pm

Got my install and been working fine for a month or so (over 110K of files) .
But just noticed files i have added in the last week have not been added.
Have cleaned the database and tried scanning mulitple time.
But so far not managed to update and list these files
they are in the correct path and the correct location
and in the correct format
any ideas?
thanks

Nope. Not really enough information in the original post, and now the "evidence" is gone, so no way to analyze it...

This has been reported numerous times though, so I'd think it's fair to call it a bug in the default Subsonic media scanner. No-one has pinpointed it or presented a stable work-around afaik.

I've posted the workaround several times.

Uncheck the media files, save, clean the database, rescan, recheck the media folders and rescan. I just had to do this yesterday. I don't know what the underlying flaw is within Subsonic, but I find this happens whenever I make certain changes to the files.

What happened:

I had two folders, the first was Mumford & Sons, then a second was created as Mumford and Sons. When we discovered that we had albums in each folder we moved the album that was in Mumford and Sons to the Mumford & Sons folder and then deleted the Mumford and Sons folder. Once done, a rescan would not pick up the album that was moved to Mumford & Sons.

I think that for some reason the db doesn't delete the entry for the moved album and then pick it up at its new location. I tried doing just a "Clean db" first, but that still didn't work. I had to uncheck all the media folders, save, scan, clean db, scan again, then recheck the media folders and scan. I may have done a bit of overkill on scanning with the folders unchecked but this fixed the problem.

Caution: You do lose your statistics when you do this.

Yes - and I also think you lose any starred, hot, top rated, recently playes, and whatever else you have (some only apply to Madsonic), it's like doing a reinstall and starting over, just a bit less hassle.

I guess the reason I would consider that a terrible fix has nothing to do with the statistics, it has to do with losing all your playlists :(

in addition to help this was not moving file
have a folder tv shows - in there is the name of every one ina folder - in that folder is season xx
i added some up to date tv shows into this folder
it was working up until the 22nd (last shows last added date) then would not add anymore
after deleted it, picked up the show nearly instantly

In MusicCabinet, I made the database design so that this information is not lost if you temporarily remove a folder, move folders and files around, transfer your database from one computer to another etc. The database keeps track of abstract information (names of artists, albums, tracks etc) and local occurrences of abstract information (a file with a tag referencing a certain track etc). Starred tracks, play statistic etc is tied to the abstract information, not to a certain file. I think this is an improvement if Sindre would like to pick it up for a future release.
