Wich version choose

Postby k1ngstr » Thu Mar 14, 2013 1:52 pm

Hi guys,

I saw there were 2 versions I could use on my Debian. The Debian version (.deb) and the War version.
I was wondering some things : I guess you have to use .deb version of Subsonic with a web server application such as Apache no? (does it work with servlet containers such as Tomcat?)
Then about the War version, afaik, war versions of applications often need a servlet container to work (because i'ts often java that is used I think?) so you have to install a Tomcat or other servlet container ?

Finally, I was wondering if the standalone version had everything included (even the servlet container or web server application). Often, Jetty is used in java applications running in servlet containers. Is it the case here?

Edit : as well as for the SQL server used in each? What is it? Guess it is hsqldb + jetty in standalone. And the war, you choose the sql DB you want to use?

The .deb comes with a bundled Jetty (an old and outdated version 6)
The .war is meant to be deployed on Tomcat or similar, just as you presume.
The standalone is platform-independent (it comes with the same code as the .deb, but with a simple .sh and a .bat startup script, no service initialization scripts)

Both of them use HSQLDB without a choice. If you want something difference, you have to look at the forks of the project.

No wonder I was having trouble.

I was looking at the knives.

I wrote new code the day before yesterday, so I'd say it is alive.
