Cant connect to external address only local on same network

Postby Confusedmime » Mon Apr 08, 2013 5:00 am

So my situation is their is a cable modem that also serves as a wireless router and i have another wireless router connected to the modem from which the pc with subsonic server is running i have forwarded port 8080 on both routers and even tried setting both ip as DMZ but still not able to connect external all i get when i enter my .subsonic.org address is a 192. address. Im at a loss for what else to try ive tried searching around the forum and such but havent come up with anything that works yet so any help would be greatly appreciated

The redirect service does not know how to handle a double NAT traversal... you will never get the vanity domain name set up when used in this fashion.

I would turn the modem/router into a bridge if that is possible, and make your internal router the only NAT device.

Why not simply turn off DHCP on the modem, and run your lan/wlan off the external router?

Go into the Motorola setup interface

--> Gateway
----> LAN tab, Disable NAT

Your other router should now get assigned a "real" ip address from your ISP, not a 192.168 address.

...then reboot both the router and the modem.

Tried disabling NAT on the motorola but the other external router ( Linksys WRT600N) would not get a connection

Did you go into the second router and reset it? I would power it all off for a good 5 minutes and then start the modem, let it sync up. Then turn on the router. Let it be for a few minutes, then connect a PC and see if you can connect.
