how to upgrade to 4.8 on debian/ubuntu

do i install right over the current installation, or do i have to back up settings, uninstall 4.7, then install the new 4.8?

any help is appreciated,

It would help to know what install of subsonic you are using, (i.e. WAR file, standalone, etc..)

With standalone, (that is what I use) I just overwrite the exisitng files after making a copy of the current version.

FWIW on Debian Squeeze, if you use the standard directions:

sudo dpkg -i subsonic-version-you-want.deb

It preserves all the user data whether you are upgrading or downgrading. That said, I am unsure if this is the case with earlier versions, as I have only tried it with the last two revisions.
