connectTimeoutException

Postby Sethdw » Sat Apr 27, 2013 5:33 pm

I am at a loss- It's driving me crazy that I cant access Subsonic through any iphone apps that I've purchased, I'm not a computer genius (obviously) and setting up ports and static connections is well on the edge of my understanding. Could you please help???
I think I need to open a port on my Linksys router? but I dont know how.

I'm sure this question has been asked and answered, and I've read those- I just need one on on info!!!
thanks!!

Howdy Sethdw!

Surmised correctly...you need to open a port to the outside (WAN) world. Grab your router's manual from Linksys' website, and follow the instructions in it to open port 4040. Reboot your router after making changes, and test your port at canyouseeme.org. G'Luck!

Ive done everything I can in configuring my ports, guessing on a few values here and there... but still the same messages. and the open port website 'canyouseeme' is even more confusing; it CAN'T see me and says that my ip is something completely different than I thought that it was... more confused.

for example... why in my routers settings are there 'port ranges'? if I want to open ports 80 and 4040, what is the ranges of those settings? hmmm.

It appears to have registered once, so perhaps your LAN IP changed? Make your server computer a fixed LAN IP (eg. 192.168.1.7/255.255.255.0) first(either through router or host's adapter settings), then go about setting 4040 as an open port on the router. Canyouseeme.org always reports your WAN (public) IP, simply enter 4040 in the box to test.

edit: you can ignore 'port ranges' and simply put 4040 as beginning, and 4040 as ending.

and no, as simple as this all seems canyouseeme.org says "Error: I could not see your service on 24.19.58.xxx on port (4040)
Reason: Connection timed out"

Typically, it's like: Port Range Start (4040) Port Range End (4040) TCP/UDP (Both) IP (LAN IP of your host machine). Click Save, then reboot router. After reboot, nav to canyouseeme.org and test port 4040.

done it. several times. totally not working. I do get it in theory. just, canyouseeme aint seeing. on the other hand, Subsonic is finally saying "Status: Successfully forwarding port 4040." but cant find my 'address' "Status: sethdw.subsonic.org is registered, but could not connect to it. (ConnectTimeoutException) "

this all seems so stupid when Audiogalaxy worked always without a hitch and apps like Tonido and any mouse apps are the easiest to figure out.

Double-check the firewall on the server computer, ensure Subsonic has an exception.

I'm getting this same error with all of the same symptoms.

Status: Successfully forwarding port 8080 and port 4443.

But then:

Status: dustbink.subsonic.org is registered, but could not connect to it. (ConnectTimeoutException)

And I get the same things as Sethdw when going to canyouseeme

The ports are forwarded, this computer has a static IP.

This only happened after I paid for an account.
