Since upgrading to 4.8 (Windows 7 for server / IE 10 and Chrome 26.0.x for client), each initial page render is greeted with an error dialog that pops up and just says "Error" as the text. Nothing else. Dismiss it and all works as expected and no more alerts. If you open up any developer windows on either browser, the error trapped says:
HTML1524: Invalid DOCTYPE. The shortest valid doctype is "<!DOCTYPE html>".
