One Folder Not Being Read

Postby wg4ever » Mon Apr 15, 2013 11:41 pm

I am having an issue where a folder full of a major amount of my cd collection is not being read. I have multiple drives assigned to be read, and have no problem with these folders. The only difference between this drive and the others is that I have two folders to be read on this same drive. Both folders are in the root directory. One is called Music and one is called MP3. There are no loose files in the MP3 directory, only full cd folders.

Once again, does anyone have ANY idea why a who folder full of TONS of cds are not being read? Is there a limit to the number of files you can serve? Why is the songs in this folder not being seen?

Ok, now I can see all of the folders inside this main directory, but Subsonic shows no music in any of the folders. Can someone please help?

Are there any errors to report? Can you please give a full path to this missing file? (eg. c:/music/rock/ABBA/GOLD-Greatest Hits/01-Dancing Queen)

The location is I:\MP3\
That folder is full of multiple folders, each containing an album with all of the proper tags on each song file. There are no loose files floating in the root directory like I have seen mentioned as being a possible problem. It sees all the cd folders, but none of the songs in the folders. I'm baffled. I have several other folders assigned and it has no trouble seeing those files.

Do any of the developers ever read these help posts? I've been asking this question over and over.

Is the drive a local drive on the host machine? Subsonic can only handle external drives as UNC shares.

There's only one developer and he doesn't often participate in the USER forum.

I have multiple folders on multiple internal hard drives. This one has another folder on the same drive that it reads the files just fine. I moved one of the cd folders into the folder that was reading ok and it still doesn't see the files inside the cd folder, only the name of that cd folder. I have checked permissions on that folder, and nothing is different than all of the other folders being used.

Try renaming the folder as "_MP3" or something other than just "MP3" - there's a possibility that Subsonic thinks it's a file extension and not a folder.

I originally had this folder named Music2 and another folder on the sam hard drive Music. Music1 had no trouble being read and everything shows up on the player. I renamed the folder MP3 and still no luck. I just renamed it Music2 again and re-scanned the folders and still no luck. I forgot to mention that for some reason about two or three cd folders in this Music2 folder can have the music files inside seen, but only two or three. There 290 other cd folders that show up, but with nothing inside. I have used several different streaming players (Audiogalaxy,QLoud, HomeDJ) and none have had this problem. they all have seen the music in this folder. It doesn't help to move them to another drive. i already tried that.

I still would like to see the entire path and extension of one of these 'unseen' files.

I:\Music2\The Baddest of George Thorogood and the Destroyers
I:\Music2\The Dandy Warhols - Come Down [1997]
I:\Music2\The Doors - Live In Detroit (2000)

Here are three examples. It finds the music folder, but nothing inside.

Have you checked permissions on this folder? Maybe create a brand new folder with full access, then move your media to that folder.

Was hoping to see the full path to the files.. (eg. c:/music/rock/ABBA/GOLD-Greatest Hits/01-Dancing Queen.mp3)
Are these not separated by artist? How many total items in I:\Music2?

I know that this may sound a bit simple and my intention is not to offend anyone, but oftentimes the obvious can get overlooked.

Is the extension of the missing files listed in the Music Files block on the General/Settings screen?

I also ran into a situation where a folder didn't show a while back that was cured by deselecting all the media folders and rescanning with no folders selected, running the clean db procedure, then reselecting the folders and rescanning.

One other suggestion would be to check for any typos. When I enter the paths for media folders, I always just copy the address right from the file explorer address bar and just paste it into the entry block.
