Re: Subsonic issues on OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.8

Is there a way to get support for this product? My trial is about to end and my server seems to generate errors constantly and I cannot access music through it anymore.

I run iSub on the iPhone and it can see the music and the server and I can browser folders but music will not play.

I am running 4.8 (build 3434) – April 17, 2013 and the one online only says 4.8 so I dont know if there is a new version or not.

Can anyone help point me in the right direction?

I would start by updating to the latest version of Java. Latest is 1.7 with several updates already. You may need to go directly to http://java.sun.com to get the latest.

Unfortunately Java 7 is not supported on my OS.

Mac OS X Version 10.6 and below:
Use Software Update available on the Apple menu to check that you have the most up-to-date version of Java 6 for your Mac. Java 7 is not supported by these older versions of Mac OS X. If you have problems with Java 6, contact Apple Technical Support. Java.com does not provide a download for these systems.

How do I fully uninstall Subsonic and reinstall?

As far as I know, you just go into your applications folder on your hard drive and drag the subsonic icon to the trash, then empty the trash.

You may be able to upgrade your Mac to Mountain Lion, depending on the specs of your hardware. May try giving Apple a call (1-800-MY-APPLE) to find out for sure.

Unfortunately ML is not an option on my Mac Pro.

Does Subsonic not work well with Java 6?

Should work, but it's not as secure (java, that is...).

Try uninstalling Java 6 and then reinstalling it. You can also try renaming the database folder, which will force Subsonic to create a new database. But if you do this, you will have to rescan your folders for media, and you will lose any user accounts you have created (as they are stored in the database.

OK, I'll have to look into a way of reinstalling Java as it was bundled with the OS prior to Lion and there are no downloads on the Java site.

There may be a way to trick 10.6.8 to install Java 7. Still I looked into uninstalling Subsonic and noticed my Database is quite huge.

Here is a link that shows the folders and sizes in the only subsonic folder which houses the DB:

Is there anything here I could just clear out to reset subsonic? I cant image Java or the Subsonic app are corrupted. It seems that this 5 Gig folder would be the issue.

I ran into similar issues with 10.6.8 on my MacPro. I got Java 7 JDK installed but Subsonic was not stable. I should say Madsonic was not stable. I think the problem was I couldn't figure out how to uninstall Java 6. I had a Java 7 Preference Panel and Oracle site verified I had Java 7 running. But after using, somehow the system reverted back to Java 6.

You can edit the systemversion.plist located in System/Library/Core Services. Copy the file to your desktop, open in text editor and change both instances of 10.6.8 to 10.7.3, save, copy back where you found it. Restart and you will be able to download and install Java 7. Don't forget to change the file back to 10.6.8 after you install Java. Java 7 will run, but I never got it stable. i went ahead and upgraded to Lion and the install went smoothly and installed Java 7 without issue.

If you find a way to get Java 7 stable on 10.6.8 please post back. There must be some way to get rid of Java 6. I would prefer to run 10.6.8.

Everything does work fine on Lon but it just seems sluggish.
