Media list is emptied every time computer goes to standby

Postby Timmy1024 » Wed Jun 19, 2013 3:36 pm

Hi there,

I've seen some related posts to this, but without any solution. I currently run Subsonic on a Windows 7 x64 computer and have added a media folder from my NAS in the format "\\NAS\Audios". SS find it OK and index them well too, but after the computer goes to standby / shutdown, whenever I turn it back on and open the browser console (or from a remote device or browser), the playlist is empty, so I can't play anthing.

Clicking on "refresh" above "Playlists" refresh it and everything appears back. This is a very annoying problem, because let's say I'm at work and want to start listening to some music, when I connect via Android I don't see any media to play!

The solution I've read on the other posts (and that I just tried), was to map the NAS folders to drives (I did mine to Z:) and add that instead in SS: I just did, but now it wouldn't even index them, with the red message "Folder not found".

Any help?

Thanks,

PS: while I'm at it, what is *really* the "Fast Access Mode" supposed to do? I've searched here without any clear answer, I've tried both, enabled and disabled and didn't notice any difference.

Anybody...?

Is there a proper way to ask for support and actually get an answer? I'm a paid user of SS and so far the two issues I had never got a response...

This is a user forum NOT a support forum and all the users here volunteer their services.
If another user here can answer your question then hopefully  they will post a reply.

However they may be having trouble understanding what playlist you are talking about :?
The imported playlists or the now playing queue?

Turn off power management. Once Subsonic loses the connection to the NAS (even for a brief moment, as in your case - no matter how long the computer is "asleep"), it loses track of any non-local media folders.

Option 2 would be to map a drive to your NAS instead of using the UNC path.

@Pewsey: yeah, I imagined this was a user forum, but I expected it to be moderated by some "official support" staff. That's why I then asked, what is the proper way to ask for support (if any)?

@gurutech: you mean power management of the NAS or the Windows PC where Subsonic is installed? In my case, as soon as Windows go to standy/shutdown it loses all the tracks. And the NAS was awake the whole time.
About the mapping of the drive... I've talked about too. I've tried mapping my NAS\Audio Folder to Z:\Audios, but then when I wrote "Z:\Audios" in Subsonic settings it showed the red error message saying "No files found" (or something like that)...

Thanks both!

Yes, disable power management on the computer. If that doesn't go offline, it won't lose the connection to the NAS.

But isn't it quite insane that it works like that? I mean... whenever I restart the computer, a power outage, whatever, the list would blank??? :o

Also, could you please elaborate on the drive mapping setting? Because as I wrote, I did but Subsonic fails to recognize it as a valid folder...

I'm not sure but check write permission of .../subsonic/db folder and files.

What permissions should the files have? I haven't touched anything after installation, and I'm on a Windows PC, so there's no *nix permission problem here...

Thanks!

Usage requires a server and a db...anything that breaks that chain means failure. You have several options: keep Win server on 24/7 along with the NAS, Add another copy of your music collection to your Win server (avoiding NAS connection issues) and leave it on 24/7, or depending on NAS, install Subsonic ON the NAS and leave it on 24/7.

But there has to be a workaround... SS should work OK with external drives, NAS, whatever. Just don't empty the library every second that the music source is not connected.

It's unacceptable for a server to work like that. Why doesn't SS updates only when the media scanning is scheduled? Why doesn't work like that even with the "Fast Access Mode" enabled (which it seems to don't do anything at all)?

SS shouldn't rely on no restarts, no power cuts, no crashes, etc. to work consistently! It's crazy to accept that at the slightest network problem the playlist will empty. Imagine what would happen if any other servers worked like that... (SQL, DLNA, etc.)

Is there any way to contact the developer about it? I can't believe this hasn't show up before in the forums...

Thanks for your comments! Regards,
