Can we stream to smartphone browser without an app?

Postby paulnye » Tue Jul 30, 2013 6:17 pm

Is it possible to use your service to stream low bitrate live audio to ios and android smartphones without requiring the listener to install an app, but use their web browser?

You'd have to do some tricky configuration between the server (ie. "external" player, instead of built in), and the smartphone, but I did have it working at one point through the browser on my iphone. May be a little easier on an Android, due to it using Flash, but I haven't tried it myself.

Could you give me some more details on how to do this?
Thanks

As long as the browser is flash enabled it will work.

You can run into a few quircks depending on the browser, but I can play music on my site through the Android browser on my Galaxy Note II and was able to do the same on my other android phones

The only ways I know of to get LIVE audio is to buy a ticket to the concert, or watch/listen on TV or radio.

You can feed most live radio into Subsonic if you find the right link for the station's live audio stream.

Even a radio station's "live" feed is delayed by a few seconds, in case the DJ drops the F-bomb or something.... :)

Then, of course, there's the whole speed of light and sound thing...
