Logging of failed login attempts

I know this has been raised before but could you please implement logging of failed (and successful of you wish) login attempts to aid support for fail2ban?

I started looking at this from a different perspective and found this very interesting article:

Instead of logging failed login in attempts for another daemon to monitor, Subsonic can protect itself.

Is there any chance something like this can be put in place?
