New iOS client, SubHub!

Hi!

My name is Paul Kite, and my partner and I have recently started a small software development studio called Voodoo77 Studios. http://www.voodoo77.com
Our first app is a client for Subsonic 4.7 and above we've called SubHub. http://subhub.voodoo77.com

Our primary goal with SubHub is to provide the best iOS experience for Subsonic. We've still got a ways to go and have a lot of cool plans for the future of our app.

SubHub version 1.0.5 has been released!

Please note, we will end support for iOS 5 in an upcoming release. If you have questions or concerns about this upcoming change please contact support.

- Fixed an issue where a library containing a single entry would cause a crash in Home.
- Fixed an issue where podcast progress might not be reliably saved after the first pause or interruption when listening.
- Other minor fixes, improvements.

Looks interesting. I already own iSub - and can't think of any reason to purchase another $5 app. My main gripe with all Subsonic apps so far is the UI. They are very basic and reminiscent of old iOS apps. I know some people don't care about the UI, but if the core features are there, I've been dying to get an app that's polished like the iOS 6 music player (or better yet, iOS 7).

I'll keep an eye out for future updates and maybe make the change when new features come out.

I watched your TV appearance that you posted where you compare your app to a Pandora-like experience, but using your own music source. Really implied you had brought something unique to the experience, but after plunking down $5, I find that is nothing like that at all, but rather just another Subsonic player, and not a very good one at that - one could stick to the free Subsonic client and have as good of an experience. iSub does general usage much better. I'll stick to that.

I'm the developer of SubHub, the man that was being interviewed is my business partner. I'm unsure why the interviewer brought up Pandora and Spotify as a comparison but I imagine that it's because they're the most visible alternatives as popular music applications right now.

I am very sorry that you're unhappy with our application. We're always looking for and welcome feedback to help us produce better products for our users. Please feel free to let us know either here or on our support site (listed above) if you have suggestions for improvement or for specific problems that you're experiencing. I do hope we can make you happy in the future.

JULISSA: So this is similar to the apps and sites that we know, Pandora, Spotify.
STEVEN: Absolutely.
JULISSA: How is it different?
STEVEN: So, it’s different in that you can actually, ah, you don't have a limit on the number of skips for songs, you don't have to listen to commercials during it, and if you put in Beyoncé, ah, you'll get Beyoncé songs. Not a bunch of songs from somebody who sounds like Beyoncé.

If, as the other poster said, the app is actually similar in function to the free Subsonic app as well as iSub, then Steven's answers are misleading. Pandora and Spotify both create generated playlists based on a selected genre and stream that down to you. Steven responded "Absolutely" to her asking if the app was similar. When given a chance to clarify how it was different, instead of saying that you make your own playlists, or highlighting how your entire music collection is available to you at any time, he did just continue to compare features of Pandora and Spotify against the app. He may have technically told the truth on what the app allows you to do, but it was within the context of a Pandora/Spotify comparison, which SubHub apparently is not.

That said, a two minute highlight interview is brief and fast paced, and misunderstandings can happen. Even if unintentionally misleading, traffic drawn to your home page or iTunes page could easily clear it up - but both your iTunes page and web presence are very sparse in a feature overview, mock-demo, or how it differentiates itself over the competition.

Comparing it to Pandora is obviously ridiculous, but the Spotify comparison is perfectly valid to me since Spotify is mainly to listen to music anywhere...

Thank you for pointing out that the iTunes page didn't contain a full description, I just threw up the overview we have on the site to iTunes. And indeed, I agree that the comparison is odd in regard to the services that were mentioned in the tv spot. We did give the interviewer a copy the weekend before and from what I understand it wasn't installed and setup until the morning of and very quickly glossed over just before airing.

Either way, I will definitely be more personally involved in the future in regard to any ad copy or description of our products.
