Subsonic XBMC question

Postby joost » Sun Sep 08, 2013 8:57 pm

I have asked the same question on the XBMC forum...

My setup:

I have a setup with linux/xbmc as htpc and a debian server which stores all my media and shares it across the network. For movies and tv-shows I let xbmc make a library centralized on the server, for music I already have a subsonic server with it's own library. I am very satisfied the way subsonic handles all this and I don't want to maintain a second library for music within XBMC. For this purpose I use the Subsonic add-on in XBMC frodo. However I am missing a lot of features compared to a library in XBMC....

Question:
Is it one way or another possible to replace the XBMC library with a subsonic one?

or

Am I missing something and are there other alternatives?

or

Is there anyone who would like to mod the current add-on and add more functionality?

My first question is imo the best integration, but don't know if it's possible?

Thank for the reply. I have the subsonic plugin already. The problem is thats it has only got a basic playback feature. What I like about xbmc is that it can scrape info online, keeps track of you library status, can use different viewtypes in library mode etc etc.. There is a XBMC add-on which solves the problem for video. This add-on makes it possible to add any movie to the library - netflix, upnp, hulu...

I am looking for somebody who has an idea to mod the subsonic plugin or xbmc that it uses the subsonic library the way xbmc uses its own library. For the moment the plugin just views subsonic songs in file-mode and that's about it...

Sorry I see what you mean now. XBMC can read symlinks so you can use them to integrate in to the XBMC Library. Make sure you back up any data before hand.

In Ubuntu use the following, but change to suit your set-up:

ln -snf /mount/point/userdata/"folder" /home/"user"/.xbmc/userdata/"folder"

Explanation:
SS Folder /mount/point/userdata/"folder" replace with your path
XBMC Folder /home/"user"/.xbmc/userdata/"folder" replace with your path

ln = link command
-s = symbolic link
-n = no dereference (treat link as a normal file)
-f = force (replace existing destination files, this will delete any data in the destination folder)

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I can use subsonic as an addon to play music. I can make a library in XBMC to have all functionality, works over ethernet also (samba share e.d.). Thing is; I love the way subsonic builds a library. It maintains the file/folder structure as stored on harddisk and uses id3 as extra info. This is a good thing because i have 100000 + songs, part of them not or messy tagged...

I would love it if the subsonic addon had more functionality, like more viewtypes, artis, album, search, library info, album and artist info scraped from online sources...

Or I would love to ad the music in subsonic to my library, the way subsonic organises it..
(It can use file and foldernames when there are no proper tags to look for fanart)

Last option is to organise my music in a way that both subsonic and xbmc have a library, which means tag 20000 files :-/ Part of my music is mainstream and has usefull tags, the rest is messy.
