Music on samba share not being addded

Postby rOOb85 » Mon Oct 07, 2013 6:57 pm

Hello all! I'm running latest version of subsonic on freebsd 9. My music is on a windows 7 share that I have mounted on my freebsd machine via sambafs. I run subsonic as my normal user on freebsd and as that same user I can read/write to the samba mount that contains my music. When I add the folder to subsonics media folders subsonic starts a scan but finds nothing showing this in the logs:
[10/7/13 3:14:37 AM EDT] INFO PlaylistService Starting playlist statistics update.
[10/7/13 3:14:37 AM EDT] INFO PlaylistService Completed playlist statistics update.

To test I created a test folder and copied a few albums to the test folder and then added the test folder to subsonics media folders. Subsonic found all the music in the test folder fine. Ive trippled checked that the user subsonic is running as has full access to the mounted shares(I can create, change, delete all files). I'm not sure why subsonic would not be able to add files from a mounted share as I would assume as far as subsonic is concerned its just a normal folder since in subsonic I added the folder as "/path/to/locally/mounted/Music" and not using something like "\\user@host\share\Music". Any ideas suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

You need to mount the Windows share as a mnt location in Linux. I used my /etc/fstab file to do this for me automatically.

Best bet is to mount to a folder level below where your actual music is installed. For example, my music is in a folder on my Windows machine as D:\media\music. (I also have D:\media\movies, and D:\media\audiobooks.)

Within your FreeBSD, mount a folder to your equivalent of D:\media.

Now, in Subsonic, set your media folder(s) to /mount/media/music, /mount/media/movies, and /mount/media/audiobooks.

This method reduces the required IRPStackSize needed by Windows to handle the multiple threads that Linux systems require to keep the connection active and usable. Creating multiple shares and mount points on Linux and increasing the IRPStackSize through the Windows registry is only a temporary solution.

I had increased my stack size to the maximum allowed (50) before I discovered the true solution.

Wow. Awesome. Setting the windows share one level below my music worked! I had no idea the issue would be so simple. Thank you SOO much for providing that info.

Subsonic doesn't recognize files in the "root" folder anyway. It's one of those things that just doesn't work for some reason, but any folders it will see no problem.
