To expand on the title, does Subsonic edit anything in a music file or is it all external for Subsonic to read only? (I'm hoping the files themselves go untouched/manipulated).

SS does not touch the files unless you ask it to eg. edit tags. (Even that may only update/change the SS database 
)
Perhaps someone else can confirm that (me server is offline at the moment for maint.)

Unfortunately, it looks like editing tags does manipulate the file itself. (Unless that's a feature of the mod, MusicCab)
Looks like I need a new HD then! Well, money, really.
