new cable modem/wireless router

Postby chefdwsaute » Sun Oct 13, 2013 1:15 am

Hi all,
Time Warner Cable has upgraded my internet and I will be picking up a new cable modem/wireless router on Monday. My question is will I need to change any settings or will I be able to just switch out the old modem/router and carry on as usual. I know this sounds like a dumb question but I'm still somewhat new at this. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, David

Do you have a second router that you have connected to the cable modem, with everything else connected to the router, or does everything connect to the cable modem?

(In other words, where is your port forwarding set up - on the cable modem or on a separate router?

currently i have an all in one cable modem/wireless router. they are moving me up a notch (20mbps to 30mbps) and giving me digital phone service also. i assume it will be an all in one unit again.

here are my port forwarding settings on the modem/router currently:

Index- Local IP - Internal Port - Public Interface IP- Ext Start Port - Ext End Port - Protocol - Enabled
1- 192.168.0.150 - 80- 75.181.12.244 - 80- 80- both - yes

2 - 192.168.0.150 - 4040 - 75.181.12.244 - 4040- 4040 - both - yes

3 - 192.168.0.150 - 4443- 75.181.12.244 - 4443- 4443 - both - yes

so basically, my question is can i use these same settings on the new cable modem/wireless router when i pick it up tomorrow? or am i going to have to figure out all new settings?

once again, this is still something i'm learning. Subsonic is working fine with these modem/router settings and i'm hoping i can just put these same settings into the new modem/router and everything will function the same. thank you again for your help. David

The public interface IP address will most likely change with the new cable modem unless you are paying for a static IP Address from your ISP.

Yep, you shouldn't need to make any changes to Subsonic.

If you have any DynDNS or No-IP settings, you may need to manually update them though once you have your new IP address, but that's about it.

thank you again gurutech! all i had to do was set up virtual server for each port on my new modem/router and it worked like a charm. this networking/port forwarding thing gets a little easier each time i have to muscle thru it. once again, thank you for all of your help! David
