Video plays OK on Android but NOT on WebViewer

Okay, this seems strange since I've used Subsonic for several years without any problem. I upgraded to the new version and installed fresh on a fresh setup headless Ubuntu 12.04 server (64bit). No one answered my earlier post where I could not figure out why I couldn't get Subsonic to run as a non-root user. The instructions on how to do so were quite simple, except Subsonic kept running as root no matter what I did. I reinstalled EVERYTHING from scratch 3 times (including reinstalling the server OS from scratch all 3 times... no luck. But here's the next issue bugging me...

My Music files all play fine from my Android app both through a Wifi LAN connection and through a 4G connection. Same with my Video library... all run fine from my Android phone through a Wifi LAN connection and over 4G.

But.... from a computer, through the wired LAN (or Wifi..no difference) and through a remote internet connection, my Music files play fine, but my Video files always give me an error similar to the following:

Video not found or access denied. /stream?id25333&MaxBitRate=1000&timeOffset=0&player=5

The only variations of the error message would be the streamid and player numbers (which is expected). Now, I would hazard a guess from the error that this is a permissions problem, but Subsonic is running as the root user and I've set the video file permissions correctly.. which I guess is why the video files play fine on my Android devices. Plus the permissions are exactly the same for the Music files(which play fine) and the Video files (which don't play - except on the Android devices). So that's strange.

I'm stumped here. Anyone have any suggestions?

I am having this exact same problem. Specifically, when my subsonic android app directs to an external player, it plays the video just fine. But when tell it to play the video file in a web browser (either on my local network or on my phone), I get the access denied error.

question... when I direct to an external player, is the subsonic app telling the server to simply not doing the transcoding? Is that what would explain this?

Subsonic is running on Unbunto 12.3 server.
