A bit disapointed with this release :/ !
Why not add a new button with the "Play next" feature (which is not working for me, on Debian 7, Linux client) ? The selection menu after a click is just over-annoying since I'm using the "append" feature a lot. Also the themes are making this unreadable.
And the lyrics are still finding nothing :/ ...

Yeah, I agree with others or at least the theme of the current replies as v4.9 needs to be a major bugfix release. This is certainly needed and due.

Thanks a lot! Very exciting with a new release of Subsonic.

I think the max size of the database is very useful...

I guess larger new features are perhaps saved for another release.
The webinterface could need a re-think and the flash player needs to go. Surely better options than that flash player must exist for content streaming by now???
Also features from various forks could be ported back into Subsonic.
I think that MusicCabinet's "radio feature" similar to Spotify would be very useful. See here: http://dilerium.se/musiccabinet/#radio

First: whoever is disappointed...I'm rather happy that Sindre is back with a release!
Second: I support the musiccabinet features and eventually they can be included just as if it was a git project.
Third: +1 on all the other points of diffy above.

Nice! I'll have to spin up a test server and test it against https://github.com/tsquillario/Jamstash

congrats to the new release, for starters.

i will surely not be an early user, partially due to the fact that i use subsonic as a unraid plugin... rather make sure all is stable and well, before i cause hell on my server.
not trying to say it won't work, just careful ;)

anyway, things that caught my attention in this release:

- upnp/ dlna server, nice addition (if it works properly). never really had a need for it personally - but it makes sense.

- Increased limit of internal database from 2 to 8 GB (fresh installs only)... now (i am basically a programming etc. idiot) that somehow got my attention! usually lots of memory help a lot if you have lots of data!?
setting the int. db radical from 2 to 8gb must help with sth - right? ;)
is there any chance that it has a positive effect on not showing 'new' files in home/ recently added after db update??? that would be awsome! i get twice a week a fit about the (sucessful and complete update) not complete
db update TAB (home/ recently added). my guests even more so, cause they have no idea what was added. (hopefully somebody has some insight on that)

- the other thing, getting my attention (once again), there is no mentioning about any 'improvement' (basically taking care of a total missing feature) in terms of a 'genre search' (thats complete, without limits and lists everything in it). basically not this wanna be a kind of search with endless limitations you find under 'more/ random play queue'. the only thing this crippled excuse does is showing me, the general ability to do a fully blown search by 'genre' as well as anything else (think drop down menu with optionslike genre, artist, album etc.) is not an outlandish idea, but a 'fairly simple' (once again, i have no clue about programming) option, as long as the files are tagged properly by the user.

- everything else in this release strikes me as really minor or (example 'play next') even useless issue/ improvement.

just my 2c

regards, L

Tips for a new release is to integrate a chatbox build on protocols like xmpp, so you can also use other apps and get notifications on chat. Also a more feature-rich chatbox, which saves its content in a DB, so its messages will not disappear when SS restarts...

Upnp is very nice, the whole technical side of SS is top. A whole new version of the web-player in version 5.0 would make me happy...
Features from musiccabinet (like artist-info from last.fm and the radio) are cool, certenly when the info feature is part of the api and could be used by other apps too.. discogs offers also the feature to scrape info i believe...

Madsonic offers per-user folder access i believe, which is also top...

SS with its current features has little bugs.. Time to add more features :)

Please please please fix this bug: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10402

I'm still stuck on 4.6 because of it.

Absolutely agree on the musiccabinet bit. Not sure, but can this not be merged into one project?

Great news to see that another version is coming up!

Tech: Increased limit of internal database from 2 to 8 GB (fresh installs only).

I normally disable my Subsonic server in the Qnap package center, then replace the WAR file and enable the package again.
This worked for me ever since the upgrade from 4.6 to 4.7. Does this replacement and re-enabling act as a fresh install?

Another +1 for reverting the 'Various Artists' change from me! Otherwise, looking like a great release!

I just released Subsonic 4.9.beta with the following changes:

New: Added a DLNA/UPnP Media Server. This feature is experimental and might not work with all DLNA clients.

This is HUGE for me...going to experiement. Can you indicate what server you settled on, is it stock or did you customise? Cheers, and many thanks Sindre!

I'm using a Java UPnP library called Cling: http://4thline.org/projects/cling/

Oops, I'll fix that. As a work-around you can manually change the "DlnaEnabled" property in c:\subsonic\subsonic.properties

joost wrote:Upnp is a very nice feature, i will test it as soon as 4.9 is final.. Subsonic library can be added as media source in XBMC, so the add on is not needed anymore..

Are there any plans to give the web interface a big change? maybe version 5 :-) This is the only thing subsonic could do much better imo...

Props for the new features!

Nothing major, but since the beta I have done some minor changes to icons and fonts to make it look a bit more contemporary.
