Easiest fix? - Next track and previous track behavior

Postby themossie » Fri Nov 01, 2013 2:52 am

Hello daneren2005!

While on last track in playlist, ''next track' button does not loop around to first track
(in fact, it does nothing).
To loop around, must wait for the end of the track.
Same behavior with first track in playlist / 'previous track' button.

This is unusual behavior which persists from the stock subsonic android app.

Should be a real easy fix, and I'll chip in good beer money :D

Thanks for your work on this project! It's on my phone (of course) but I'm even running DSub on my Windows machine now, through Windroy.

Not sure why you would expect it to behave that way...I wouldn't...

Yeah, I actually fixed this a few times, then thought about it, then just erased my changes and didn't keep them. To me next means the next song in the list, and looping back around didn't make much sense to me either once I really thought about it. Anyone else want to way in on whether they think it should or not?

Would be interested to know what percentage of the "better" music players for android behave this way...anyone have any experience with others?

I'm not sure about other Android players, but I've never used anything else that doesn't do this.

Windows: Winamp, MediaMonkey, Foobar2000 and WMP all behave this way (in some, only when 'repeat all / repeat playlist' is on)
Physical MP3 Players: Sansa, Creative Labs behave this way

Shouldn't the 'next track' button match the 'end of track' behavior?
Is it useful to have 'next track' and 'previous track' buttons do nothing in some situations?

I control DSub in the car through bluetooth controls (California law), restricting me to next track and previous track buttons for control. I don't see the downside to this behavior when when 'repeat playlist' is on.

Thanks for your consideration :-)

Well yeah, with repeat playlist on, it does make some sense. You didn't say that before. :P

Alright, I will go ahead and add this change for when repeat is on.

Yes, I didn't say so because I didn't know so :)
My physical mp3 players and WMP act this way with loop off.

Learned they don't all act this way when I went to test MediaMonkey / Foobar2000 / etc to answer your earlier question. I used to use Winamp often, should have known this - maybe I always leave loop on?

Thanks, daneren2005! Enabling this behavior is a little detail which makes DSub much more usable for me.

Out of curiosity, are you enabling it for both repeats or 'repeat all only'? I'd say the reasoning applies to both, but no strong feelings on the matter.

Repeat all only. The repeat song and non repeat will just stick at the end like it used to.
