I am sure this question has been asked before and I apologize however I cannot seem to get my router set up in such a way to allow my friends or myself to connect to my subsonic player from any other computer except my own. I can log in from my main machine just fine and I am loving every minute of having it. I set up accounts and everything but what address do i give my friends for them to go to? What kind of setting should I have in my router? I really need a good step by step...

Thank you,

Steve

I assume you're talking about friends who are over at your house and want to access subsonic, not remotely? If so, go to the machine that is running subsonic. If windows, Start > Run > cmd > ipconfig /all. If Linux, sudo ifconfig.
This command will show the ip address of the machine. This is the ip that you need to use in your web browser on the machines on your network. For example, http://10.0.0.5:8080/subsonic (if you're using port 8080 for access). You shouldn't have to change anything in your router.

You recommendations: 1. Give the machine that's running subsonic a static ip address so that the address never changes.
2. If you still can't connect, but can ping the subsonic server from another machine, make sure you have the necessary port open in the firewall. Hope this helps!

This info is very helpful for sure however I was talking about remotely... so if I go to a party at a friends house in another town and want to access my subsonic library or perhaps they want to access for themselves to download what I have...

any suggestions?
