Subsonic Android Gigs of background transfer

Postby danobegood » Thu Dec 05, 2013 1:02 am

Today my phone pulled like 5GB of data via Subsonic. Not sure why. First thing I noticed was songs would attempt to play and then remain at 0kB downloaded and never play. I used Chrome to download a song on my phone and it downloaded just fine. Any thoughts anyone?

Got a lot of these errors in the server log
[12/4/13 4:45:53 PM EST] WARN RESTFilter Error in REST API: ClientAbortException

Took some time today to look into the issue I was having. It seemed that the server was continuously sending the requested song over and over while the phone app just sits there reporting Downloading - 0B. The server log shows the following after selecting a song, stopping it, starting it, etc:

I went into the settings on the phone app, looked at the Cache location and noticed that it was set to /storage/sdcard0/subsonic/music. I changed it to /storage/sdcard1/subsonic/music and the app is now working as expected. As well, music is being downloaded to the sdcard as compared to previously downloading to the phone storage. I don't know what the cache location path was when it was working previously, downloading to phone storage, but in any case the phone has like 3+GB of free space and I'd assume that there shouldn't have been a problem with music caching.

I moved the app from the phone to sd and back again and that had no effect on the issue I was having. The only thing that seemed to help was changing the Cache location path from sdcard0 to sdcard1.

One more follow up, I believe that despite my phone indicating that there was 3+GB of free space (I believe the phone is partitioned by the corporate administrator; being a company phone) there was really no available space to download to. There was no error from the phone indicating no available space, at least none that I am aware of. I suspect that the phone tried to download over and over and couldn't place the downloaded file anywhere, nor could it pass it along to playout by the app. Therefore, the phone just tried every five seconds to download the song again and again resulting in a continuous background pull from the server.
