i downloaded the 4.9 beta3, it looks like there is no more option to download a single track , just the entire album. PLEASE tell me this feature was not removed.

New: When playing a song, queue rest of album.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

What is the rationale behind this change?

Could this become a configurable option?

I prefer the original behavior where it cleared the queue, added the one song, and started playback.

Many decent players do this. The idea is to automate the most frequent tasks, and many still listen to entire albums. The logic also extends that if you prefer to manually build a playlist, simply clear the current playlist (2 clicks) and begin your search/build playlist process, which is all manual anyway.

And almost all decent players allow you to turn it off. :D

I guess I'm one of the 'weird types' when I want to listen to two or three songs from many albums. I just don't listen to albums, besides maybe this time of year when I do listen to say an album of Bing Crosby or something.

Two clicks presently...could prolly be pared to a single-click by adding a 'Clear Playlist' button among the nav buttons like MediaMonkey..

I too liked the old play button behavior.

Also, the new download behavior creates a .zip even for single-file downloads. This has server-side performance consequences as the server has to compress the file before shipping it to the user.

Sindre, can you put a line or two in the code to only compress if the user is downloading multiple files at once?

Thanks,
Yosef

my homescreen has now only one column and 40 entries down. See this http://www.hortien.com/Zwischenablage01.jpg.
I'm using Firefox 26.0.
With Internet Explorer 11 it works correctly.

Best regards

This was solved by a full scan of the music.

I have problems to play music from one of my directories.
The structure looks like

Music
Klassik
A
B ..
Rock-Pop
A
B ..
Others

I can enter all directories except Rock-Pop. When I enter it, I stay on the same level and can reenter it again. The
path then looks like:

Music\Rock-Pop\Rock-Pop\Rock-Pop

Merry Christmas

Clas

I worked around this by renaming rock-pop to rockpop and a full scan.

if you add the single track or tracks to your play queue...then go to download in the queue's drop down list it will download the track or tracks you have added

Perplexed... the genres are not sorted (in the "By Genre" browse) in any coherent way. Once a genre is chosen, the Albums are not sorted in any coherent way. When you finally pick an album, the other albums shown by the same artist are also not sorted in any meaningful way. That might be fine if you have a few dozen albums, but if you have a few thousand albums it just leaves a jumble.

Of course, browsing "By Genre" should lead you to choose the Artist, not a jumble of Albums.

...

Updating from 4.8 to 4.9beta3 (on Ubuntu 12.04) apparently messed up special character support for me as well.

In my file hierarchy, directory names containing non-ASCII (at least it appears to be non-ASCII) characters (which means some artists with 'foreign names' in my case) are not displayed or indexed at all. Furthermore I see the same symptoms as joost mentions in the quoted passage, tracks with special characters in the title (and therefore their filename, as my tracks are named in a '[track number] [track title].[file extension]' scheme) are not displayed correctly, but as folders. The special characters are replaced with '' in my case.

Hi,

when using the DLNA Server I can't play any of my files, as I get an "unsupported format" error on all devices.
I tried it on a WDTV and two different Samsung TVs.

Best regards

Anyone knows why? Running Ubuntu Server, Tomcat7 and 4.9 beta 3.

Same problem here. I get 345 bytes unopenable cover.jpg

Did some testing:

It works with images downloaded from clone.nl, boomkat.com, play.fm, kompaktkiste.de, ebay.co.uk

But not from discogs.com :(

Since I have a lot of electronic music, the image search guides me a lot to discogs.com
It is also the first site I check to match releases and their album art when in doubt. I maintain my physical music collection there as well, so it would be a great miss if this site isn't supported anymore :(

edit: copy/pasting a link from their picture server doesn't work either. http://s.pixogs.com/image/R-17047-1125764599.jpeg is visible in my browser after I loaded the page on discogs http://www.discogs.com/viewimages?release=17047 but it won´t stick in subsonic. The result is still the 3xx byte unopenable file

I am having trouble adding album art too. I add a URL for art and it says "successfully downloaded" but doesn't always "take".

Now, it is displaying odd colors.

In the case below: it is displaying purple but the only way that i see the correct colors (red) is by clicking on it.
I tried across Chrome, Firefox and Safari and the behavior was all the same.

I just get a 0 byte .jpg file. As i cant choose a URL manually (get the same error) i think my problem is something else.

Got my files on a NAS that's mounted with a user that have r/w permissions.
The service is running with another user called tomcat7.

I thought I should share this - so anyone else upgrading can be aware of this behaviour;

I updated to 4.9.b3 this morning and after initially working, I got nothing in a browser...

I did a
and saw a 302 then waiting...

My assumption was that subsonic was busy populating the new db columns - but I ran "top" and didn't see subsonic producing any load...

I ran strace and saw lots of futex and timeouts
nothing useful in the logs (/var/subsonic/*log)
I rebooted the server...
Still nothing for a good while
I ran strace again and saw the same futex and timeouts pattern
- then working, as if by magic...
I ran strace again and saw the same futex and timeouts pattern - so that's normal then :-)

No problem, I was just worried for an hour or so!

Z.

PS: Thanks for the default to "add last" when adding to play list :-)

Just updated to beta3 and as a couple others have pointed out the removing of the download button is rather annoying.

For the albums I dont really see a porblem, as I may be in the minority but if Im going to download a song I will generally grab the full album. However the downplay of the removed download button really comes into play when im talking about videos. To now download a single video I have to select the checkbox and scroll down to the bottom of the page and select download. This is a non-intuitive design for the end user. Additionally this adds the overhead of zipping the file before sending it, which in most cases provides little actual compression and is a hassle when downloading a single file.

Additionally the more intuitive route for the end user seems to be to check the files they want and then to hit the download link at top, however unbeknownst to them this will zip up all files in that directory and deliver them, so you may want to make that link called Download All to avoid that confusion.
