sometime coverArt images are broken/missing in 4.9

love the new 4.9 releases! very cool/stable! but, I do have one issue that has been consistently popping up in the 4.9 full and beta releases.

Problem Description: Ongoing issues with certain "coverArt.view?" requests not showing all thumbnails in current 4.9 release
Troubleshooting Steps: Tried restarting server; Tried editing/replacing/deleteing image (cover.jpg/folder.jpg/etc.) files in folders; Tried editing/deleting exif data, Tried editing/deleteing/replacing embedded coverart in the mp3s
Playback Application and version: basic subsonic web interface via latest chrome and IE browsers
Subsonic Version: 4.9 (build 3853) – January 23, 2014
Server Version: jetty-6.1.x, java 1.7.0_51, Windows 7 (93.2 MB / 107.7 MB)
Hardware Platform: windows 7 ultimate
Java Memory Limit: 768
Problem Filename: Various album artwork image files
Output from ffmpeg -i: n/a
Last ten log file lines: No errors in log about the images that don't properly display

I have ongoing issues with getting all the cover art to always properly display in all pages of the web interface. The images display on some web interface pages but break on other pages.

The strangest thing is that on some pages the images appear perfectly, but, on others they don't!
PLEASE SEE ATTACHED EXAMPLES OF ONE PARTICULAR IMAGE THAT USUALLY WORKS (2 working display page examples) BUT SOMETIMES FAILS (one broken display page example).

I have tried various browsers and PCs, yet, the issue persists. Most of my mp3s have the album art embedded, but I have seen the issue with both embedded images and folder.jpg/cover.jpg file folders.
I have tried editing/replacing/deleting the embedded/file-based images for the affected albums, but, they issue remains.
Just F.Y.I.: The issue doesn't appear on any andoid or ios standalone apps; so, I don't think it is an issue with the embedded and/or file-based images themselves.

4.9 has been stable otherwise, but I'm having this exact same problem with album art with Subsonic standalone on Ubuntu Desktop 12.04 LTS.

oh i forgot to mention- the common element in the busted albums is that they have PDFs in the same directory as the mp3s.

I would say I do not get any cover art from ID3 tags. They appear on every other app such as Mediamonkey.
I do not even get any tab regarding cover art in the settings.

Edit:
I should add I'm new to this app, running 4.9 standalone on Windows. I get the same issue with 4.8. Java 7.57.
No errors on log file.

Ok. I've understood : SS doesn't display cover art of individual files.
I have folders with EDM releases sorted by genre. If I had such a folder in SS it wouldn't display each cover art separately. It's completely dumb to consider everyone is using an album-sorted music folder.
If it's limited by design and not a mistake/misunderstanding from my side I'm affraid I will need to find something else.

@michelsup you're correct about the per-album artwork thing- it doesn't matter for me because i do everything by album, but that does seem like an issue.

this is a separate problem though.


since my last post i did some dicking around and found some odd things- on one disc, i renamed the artist folder, rescanned, removed the PDF, then completely destroyed and rebuilt the database and now the artwork appears as expected. i was hoping this experiment would result in some sort of workaround, but apparently not D:

this also plays in to a prior issue we'd talked about regarding better PDF support in general. my primary use case is listening on my phone via the API (specifically via the excellent iSub app for iOS,) and i think if there was some internal support for PDF instead of the awkward downloading thing we've got going on now it'd probably help gracefully solve this artwork problem AND hopefully make it easy for API apps like iSub to let me read full liner notes on my portable device, which would be hugely valuable to me.
